Last night, Windsor Cinema came alive.

Students, sector practitioners, corporates, minister and community members all in the same room, united by one shared purpose. The energy was everything we hoped for, the film was powerful, and the panel conversation that followed reminded us why this work matters.

Thank you to every single person who showed up last night. Thank you to @amnestyintuwa for bringing the next generation into the room. Thank you to the filmmakers, @christopher_mark_peters , @creativedave , and @tiahna_mcbride , for creating a film that Perth needed to see. And thank you to our extraordinary panel, Simone McGurk, Dawson Ruhl, Louise Lamont and Tori Cooke, for the honest, necessary conversation that followed.
All proceeds from last night's charity screening go directly to supporting the work of Phoenix Support & Advocacy Service.

This is why we do what we do.

*trigger warning*
Some patterns repeat until someone chooses to break them.

Wreckage is a local film about domestic and sexual violence and interpersonal harm, and the harder question underneath it: why harm repeats, and how a cycle can pass from one generation to the next.

Made here, in our own community, standing for something good.
One screening. 30 July, Windsor Cinema, Nedlands. Every seat supports Phoenix Support and Advocacy Service.
Be a part for the cause, book you seat now. Tickets link in bio

When I found out @christopher_mark_peters feature film was premiering at the @wamadefilmfestival, I was immediately in. When he said to me “there are some uncomfortable scenes”, I was all in. Had I expected to sob in the theatre, I probably wouldn’t have worn eye make up. This film, so aptly named, wrecked me.

As an actor, writer and survivor of domestic violence and sexual assault, I see a lot of film and television that either inaccurately dramatises the reality of this epidemic, or only shows it at surface level. Wreckage doesn’t do any of that. This film shows the terrifying raw reality of what’s it like to be inside this situation. The truth of the cycle of violence. It shows the humanity in the horror that makes people say “but how could she not see what he was like?” and “why didn’t she just leave?”. It’s shows the severity of the fear, and the level of strength and bravery. The fact it was shot in WA made it hit closer to home for me than anything that’s come before it.

The performances by @tiahna_mcbride, @adam_t_perkins, @travis.koch5, @danibreweractor and @o.millzy were some of the most truthful I’ve seen. And thank you Tiahna for your strength, your kindness and for holding so much space for those around you.❤️

Thank you Chris for telling these stories, for being a voice to the voiceless, and for doing survivors justice. You’re an incredible, sunshine human, and this film truly showcases your heart. I hope every single person gets a chance to see this film. I’ll be thinking about Wreckage for a very long time.❤️❤️

@christopher_mark_peters and my next feature film. A confronting topic, yet important message to tell. #WreckageFilm is premiering on 28 February at the @wamadefilmfestival and available on streaming in the near future.
