EARLY WARNING !!!

This December, I’ll be doing a three-week long Thursday night residency at the Hungry Brain, presenting a couple of working bands, as well as an all-star ad hoc grouping to kick things off on December 3rd. Hope that you can join us to check out a great roster of folks across the month including Joshua Abrams, Jason Adasiewicz, Jim Baker, Nels Cline, Chris Corsano, Ben LaMar Gay, Avreeayl Ra, and Tomeka Reid. At the end of the month, we’ll be tacking on a Sunday night for what has now become an annual tradition with Rempis/Abrams/Ra + Baker, this time doing a record release party for our new album The Walls Of The Temple Are Made of Sound on Aerophonic Records.

Tickets are onsale now at hungrybrainchicago.com, and I highly suggest purchasing in advance for some of these. When they’re gone, they’re gone!

HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!!!

🚨 NEW ADDITION on VINYL 🚨 — “This Is Not A Prayer For You” by @stevebaczkowski & @chriscorsano (The Black Dot / 2025) - It documents a February 2017 session, recorded in Steve's Buffalo NY living room, representing their first recording as a duo. // Get your copy at the Link in Bio before its too late! ✨

“Between the two of them they conjure up a hell of a beautiful racket. Steve's baritone playing has a savage mass that makes me think of Frank Wright in terms of gnarly edge and sheer force, while Chris' drumming is an example of his fleetest 'straight ahead' action, displaying an approach that is without frills while still managing to be ten places at once.” -Byron Coley

NEXT MONTH: the newest installment of the Small Room Variations series at Dissonant Works featuring

CHRIS CORSANO (drums)
KIM ALPERT (video + voice)
ALEX CUNNINGHAM (violin)

K. CURTIS LYLE (poetry)
MAUREEN KEAVENY (electronics)

Friday, November 27

I’m thrilled to welcome Chicago artists Chris Corsano and Kim Alpert to DW for a trio performance on 11/27 and a daytime workshop on 11/28. Mark your calendars.

——————————————————————————

Chris Corsano (b. 1975, USA) is a Chicago-based drummer who has been active at the intersections of collective improvisation, free jazz, avant-rock, and experimental music since the late 1990’s. He’s been the rim-batterer of choice for some of the greatest contemporary purveyors of “jazz” (Joe McPhee, Paul Flaherty, Mette Rasmussen, Zoh Amba) and “rock” (Sir Richard Bishop, Bill Orcutt, Jim O’Rourke), as well as artists beyond categorization (Björk for her Volta album and world tour, Michael Flower, Okkyung Lee).

Kim Alpert combines analog and digital technologies, movement, music, and interactivity, to create sculptural and performance-based video systems. Kim’s visual practice centers on humanism with inquisitions into psychology and spirituality - understanding and translating the impact of visual language to create meaning.

Available now! Carlos Giffoni & Chris Corsano ‘Eat The Rich’ LP (GGGR-145)
Eat The Rich is an eclectic intersection of two serial collaborators: Giffoni (No Fun Fest / No Fun Productions) continues to explore new dimensions in sound, primarily using modular / synths (with recent full lengths on Ideologic Organ and Room40), paired here with the instinctually abstract percussion of Corsano (known from working with everyone from Bill Orcutt to Richard Bishop to Bjork but with literally 100’s of appearances under his belt since the turn of the century). Produced by David Scott Stone & Giffoni, mastered by Lasse Marhaug. Available to order / wholesale from Midheaven / Revolver or direct from Gilgongo Records on Discogs or through the label’s Storenvy site. If you are outside of the US, please order from Soundohm. Digital edition available from Carlos Giffoni on Bandcamp.
