What an incredible night we had at the Lido. We literally had to turn away people at the door as we were over capacity. We had over 150 people show up to support live music and we raised over $2000 for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank! Plus we had so many great musicians play!

Thank you so much to Coastal Jazz for co-presenting this with me, to the Lido for having us, to everybody who came out and donated, and to Ardeshir, Wynston, Winston, and Arvind for hosting such a wonderful night of music.

Holiday times! Come celebrate your life at my LIVE MUSIC EVENTS!

!!!TONIGHT!!! Dec 17: Matt Franceschini plays Julian Lage at Frankie's After Dark 11pm-12:15am. Come hear your friend play nice guitar songs and say hello before he flies back to his lovely new home in Montreal.

Dec 18: Will Clements at the Vancouver Christmas Market 7:30-9:30pm. This would be a good place to have a cute date or cause a ruckus with your buds.

Dec 21: Chris Fraser at Tangent Cafe 8-10:30pm. Chris, John, Conrad and yours truly. Last time we all played together was early in 2022 and it was fire. We'll play standard repertoire, deep cuts and some of Chris' originals.

Dec 30: Julian Borkowski at Frankie's Jazz Club 8-10:30pm. Julian, Ardeshir, and Noah have all been off studying their craft in different parts of the USA this fall, which makes this an epic reunion power gig. Plus local legend Jodi Proznick on bass.

Another highlight from the SFO concert this last May featuring my talented friend @johnstnicholson on tenor sax. This was another early composition of mine and actually has a lot of compositional inspiration from Rickie Lee Jones. I got the chance to have this piece workshopped by the living legend Maria Schneider in 2016or17 and promptly threw the entire thing in the trash once I got home and started over after feeling a new rush of inspiration.

This section of this piece is a 3 part puzzle. Flute, trumpet, and alto sax are loosely playing a previously well established melody together, while the brass create these big beautiful swells as they choose their own pitches. And on top of all that John gets to fly over top and create some really beautiful moments! I love this type of collective improvisation as it is a new sound every time.

Just a happy tune about a happy colour. This little clip features my great friend @roryplaystrumpet. Near the end if this tune the band gradually transitions into collective improvisation lead, at first, by Rory. I love how the rest of band eventually over powers Rory and envelops him in this huge joyful NOISE!!

The full video is on my youtube and you’ll get to hear another incredible solo by @chrisfguitar.

I’ve been sitting on these videos from my big band concert last May and it’s time to start getting them out there.
The first piece I want to share is called PLACES. It was largely inspired by Maria Schneider and her piece Pretty Road as it was my wakeup alarm for the entire year while I was writing this piece and I think it shows. This is one of my first pieces I wrote for big band in 2016 but I’m glad it still holds up with my more recent pieces.

The full piece can heard on my youtube channel (link in bio)

Todd Stewart put together this great new Electric Trio (featuring Cole Woodland and Chris Fraser) with just over a week’s notice, and I’m still buzzing from the tunes they put together, by everybody from Bill Evans to Wayne Shorter to DJ Shadow, to Todd himself! Plus Feven Kidane sat in!

Todd Stewart has been an important part of the Infidels thing since the beginning, as he played our very first live event with Chris Davis, and also led a trio at our inaugural After Dark show back in May.

This Saturday he takes to the Frankie’s stage again, but this time with two of the city’s most capable young musicians: Christopher Fraser on guitar, and Cole Woodland on the bass. They’ll be doing a melange of contemporary fusion, originals, and even some free improv, and I’m personally excited about the music these three will be making.

11PM! 10 bucks!
