Hi 👋 I’m Sarah one of the founders of @joindiscoverd • Here’s me aged 13 on my pony Skipper (or Fielden Skipper as he was registered) 🤍

I remember the day my parents told me I could buy him. I had started riding him when my mum moved to a new yard with her horse, and I absolutely adored him….

I’d ridden since I was 4 and my parents always said that if I saved enough, one day I could have a pony of my own. I’d been saving all my Birthday and Christmas money for years, doing jobs for pocket money and a paper round every day of the year apart from Christmas Day when I was 13! They did end up paying half the money for him, but I’d started realising the importance of working hard and the value of money, so early on.

I never made it to the top, but I loved it…. And progressed in my own way. I’ve always said how having horses and competing, taught me so much at a young age without me even realising it. The dedication making sure my ponies were well looked after, early mornings in the dark, freezing winters, winters full of mud and then all the training and practicing (not to mention show prep!)…

One of my big memories in my teenage years is being so cold on the yard that I couldn’t feel my toes, and getting the mucking out done so that in my head, I’d earn’t my Pot Noodles to warm up before I got back to work again 😂 I had no choice but to carry on through the cold!

Competing… I always felt so happy and proud when I got placed…. The nerves were always horrendous though 😂 but the journey was more than just the competing part.

This is one of the reasons Discover.d means so much to me. Sport and competing isn’t just about those who make it to the top, there’s so much hard work, dedication, talent and achievement at every level, every part of the Sporting Journey is important, and THAT is worth celebrating.
