I just rearranged the book/zine area of @southstreetartmart and I'm feeling proud of our little space, so I thought I'd share. 💖

Book 43/50: Black Punk Now, a compilation of works edited by James Spooner and Chris L. Terry, completed July 11, 2026

This book was a Christmas present from my older sister who knows how into alternative subculture books I am, especially with regards to fellow people of color in those subcultures. This book contains interviews, comics, fiction, nonfiction...all sorts of pieces by Black punks - from musicians to hackers - compiled by @spoonersnofun and @chrislterry , describing their lives with relation to punk music and generally living a punk life. Some familiar names, such as @brontezpurnell and @kyleozero , showed up. It was a fun and fascinating deep dive and ended with a fantastic playlist.

Hi Folks! I have some exciting news to share. Over the weekend I learned that I’ve been chosen as the 39th member of The Southern Collective Experience, a highly selective group of authors, artists, and educators. The SCE has a long reach thanks to its podcast Dante’s New South and its magazine The Blue Mountain Review, both of which will feature The Watersmith in the coming months. Meanwhile I’ll be serving as a fiction editor of the magazine, so if any of you Southern writers have stories of your own to share, do send them my way using the submission guidelines on The SCE website!

It’s such an honor to stand alongside the 38 existing members, particularly the incomparable Clifford Brooks III, founder of The SCE, host of Dante’s New South, and multiple Pulitzer Prize nominee. Keep swiping to see the cover of his latest poetry collection, Orpheus Remains, forthcoming from Mercer University Press (September 2026). Do yourself a favor and check out these dark and dazzling poems.
