Today it's a real @chrisproctorart for COWBOYS pieces. I asked Chris for a few words about his piece and he got back back to me a week later with news that he had actually died. Heartened as I may be by the newly increased value of my personal collection of Chris Proctor work it's a shame to know that we printed the info card just a few days early.

I opened this piece on video because I thought the surprise of his piece would be notable - he got me good. Again, a piece extremely identifiable as that of the artist but at the same time in a direction I couldn't have anticipated. I love the colours of this piece. It would have been so easy for Chris to hammer out yellow, blue and green and call it a day.

There’s something wonderfully human about Chris Proctor’s work.

In “Flying Lessons from the Bird Who Never Left the Nest” Chris leans into vulnerability, humour and self-reflection, creating paintings and drawings that feel both deeply personal and surprisingly universal. Working with worn brushes and pens that resist perfect control, he allows mistakes, hesitation and uncertainty to remain visible - becoming part of the story rather than something to hide.

Each artwork is accompanied by a playlist of songs Chris listened to while making the work, offering another glimpse into the thoughts, moods and moments behind the collection.

A rainy winter weekend is the perfect time to wander through a gallery.

Our Winter Salon is now showing at The Corner Store Gallery in Orange NSW, bringing together a beautiful collection of original Australian art, handmade ceramics, jewellery and selected works from our stockroom.
