Meet the voice of our Night in Venice. 🎭🕯️

Soprano Christina Thanisch-Smith has sung with Calgary Opera in Don Giovanni and L’elisir d’amore, and most recently in Carmina Burana at the Jack Singer Concert Hall. Opera Canada praised her “shimmering vocals with pitch-perfect intonation.”

On October 23, she’s leaving the big stage behind to sing just a few steps from your table, with pianist Evan Mounce by her side.

IT’S FINALLY HAPPENING
I’m ready to share something that has been years in the making…
I’m launching my video podcast, Simply Says: Pivoting with Purpose

This podcast is about the moments that change us - the risks we take, the unexpected turns, the setbacks we overcome, and the decisions that lead us somewhere completely new. Because everyone has a pivot.

This podcast is inspired by own personal journey, experiencing profound loss and tragedy. I certainly know what it feels like to have your life pivot in ways you never asked for. And I also know what it means to persevere, rebuild, and find your way forward.

I’m incredibly excited and very grateful to introduce you to Season 1 with an outstanding lineup of guests: including scientists, olympians, politicians, TV hosts, food network personalities, designers, entrepreneurs and changemakers.

🎙️ Simply Says: Pivoting with Purpose launches this September.

And the trailer is officially out NOW!
Marcio sat down with me in studio to help me launch the season and kick things off!

Check out the trailer, subscribe on YouTube, and follow along wherever you listen to podcasts. ❤️

Branding portraits for a Calgary opera singer 🎶
When the subject already brings so much presence, the goal is to keep everything else simple — clean light, minimal styling, and space for personality to shine. #calgaryheadshots #yycphotographer #yyccreatives #studioheadshots #calgaryopera

🌅 MORNING LIGHT - FEBRUARY 26, 2026 🌅

☀️🎶 What started out as sonic postcards shared during the height of the COVID-19 public health lockdowns between two friends and collaborators has turned into the sophomore album for @idatoninato and Jennifer Thiessen (@violajen . Jennifer joined us to talk about the record and how the combination of baritone saxophone and viola helped to ward off the darker elements of winter on “Dream of Heat”.

☀️🎶 The @wpgsymphony’s “Echoes of Italy” will showcase a rare trumpet and soprano duo from the Italian Baroque era. Trumpeter Chris Fensom and soprano @christinathanisch joined us to talk more about “Su le sponde del Tebro” (“On the Banks of the Tiber”), a piece that each says the other one is the primary soloist in.

It’s all possible.

Highlights from September and October! The wide world is all about you! Not pictured: hitting the practice room harder than I have in many moons (don’t worry, it hit me back), ego death in a beginner French class, and Frank for some reason (he’s still orange, worry not).

Also not pictured: lots of upcoming projects (although there are hints about some of them in this photo set wheeee)! We’re well underway with rehearsals @uofaopera for Urinetown (come see us in Jan) & @torontocityopera for our Pagliacci (opening Nov 19)! Very excited and as always, a little overwhelmed! Not to mention my 1st year doctorate recital (ooooo) & a few other cheeky tba performing gigs. Balancing all this with my commitment to soup season. so far so good.

It’s alllllll possible.
