Chris, reading your review of Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner really stayed with me. You captured something that’s hard to put into words, the way grief quietly lives inside ordinary moments. The way you wrote about food, memory, and loss made it feel like more than just a review; it felt like you were inviting the reader into that emotional space with you.

What stood out most to me was how you didn’t simplify the mother-daughter relationship. You let it be complicated, real, and layered, which made everything hit even harder. It reminded me that love isn’t always perfect or easy, but it’s still deeply meaningful.

Your perspective made me appreciate the book on a deeper level, especially how something as simple as a grocery store can hold so much emotion and history. It’s clear you didn’t just read the book, you understood it.

Thank you for sharing something so thoughtful and honest. It made me want to slow down and really sit with the story in a different way.

On the countdown to the Gauntlet event @holtsheffield on 1 March. Tickets £3 available on the night or from The Holt in advance.
The line up is looking colourfully creative. I’m going to be running the event with @ottersinsocks and there’s going to be a couple of featured slots (inc a performance from me) and a meze of open mic showcasing Sheffield’s local talent. Exciting!!
