CAST SPOTLIGHT: CHRISTOPHER TONKIN — DON GIOVANNI He's back. Christopher Tonkin flew in from Germany to reprise the role he first sang with Melbourne Opera in 2006. Some things are worth coming home for. "We're still dealing with the same patriarchal, dominance-based, hierarchical structures today as Mozart was in his time. And that is what Giovanni represents, that tiny fraction of humanity for whom the system works, while the rest of us are constrained by it. That's why something like Don Giovanni is so powerful, and why it feels so urgent to be putting it on right now." Mozart’s Don Giovanni has seduced, deceived and destroyed for over two centuries — and refused to repent even at the gates of hell. “The abuse of power, misogyny, revenge — sadly, these are not things which are becoming any less relevant as time goes on.” Suzanne Chaundy’s production is urgent, alive, and at the Athenaeum Theatre for three performances only. Sun 26 April · Wed 29 April · Sun 3 May. Tickets from $79. Book now via link in bio 📸 Nicole Cleary
