Spending nights in the fog of SFO

FEATURE 013 — Christopher Soukup
@christopher_soukup

Through his work, Christopher explores the tension between familiar domestic settings and eerie isolation. His scenes feel like stills from a film, prompting viewers to create their own narratives.

In his words: “I am a photographer based in San Francisco. Much of my work is in and around the bay area. I am interested in making images that speak to the emotional temperature of the moment, how it feels to be in that space. More specifically along the thin boundary between something calm and something more uncertain, allowing the viewer to linger long enough for the image to change as they look.”

WHERE THE RAIN HIDES THE CITY.#StreetPhotography #NightPhotography #NeoNoir #CinematicPhotography #NewYork A solitary figure disappears into a narrow New York alley where red neon and cold blue light divide the darkness. Rain transforms the pavement into a mirror, reflecting storefronts, streetlights and distant city lights. The old brick walls and fire escapes remain sharply defined while the modern glass building dissolves into an abstract blur, creating a tension between the intimate darkness of the street and the enormous city beyond it.

Neon Flood Over the Sleeping Empire #cyberpunk #newyorkcity #neonnight #rainystreet A low-angle, central-perspective nighttime view of a rain-soaked urban street in a cyberpunk-inspired New York City. The wet asphalt reflects vertical streaks of neon light in orange, green, and white, creating glowing trails across the roadway. Dark vehicles, including vans and cars with headlights on, line the sides of the street and fade into the distance. On the left, a bright green rectangular sign reads “HYPE ENERGY US,” while farther down the street a vertical red-orange neon sign reads “RADIO CITY.” The skyline is dense with dark modern buildings and scaffolding structures along the left side. In the background, the Empire State Building rises above the city, its upper spire glowing in a turquoise-green light against a foggy, overcast night sky.

“Sent Mail no. 2“ from @christopher_soukup night archives.

📍 Independence, California — X, 2020 | X

A fragment of silence in the Owens Valley. Beneath the toxic hum of flickering cyan LEDs, the desert’s nocturnal law is written entirely in crimson and heavy shadows. Where the sidewalk terminates, the human noise dissolves, leaving behind a sharp, cinematic isolation.
