It Feels So Good to Drive Away From Your Life (2001) Christopher and I once drove to Atlanta in a rental truck. We were bringing some paintings of ours (mine strapped to the right, his to the left, if I remember correctly) to my college friend Seth. I’ll forever be thankful. Seth was trying his luck at becoming our agent. He was angling for some sales … and perhaps he could help boost our early careers. Needless to say, it didn’t turn out as we’d all hoped. But while we were driving, Christopher and I passed a boombox back and forth. This is our sonic diary. Sort of a field recording - or perhaps a comedy record - it’s a beautiful document of our friendship, and the rawest proof of his improvisational chops. You hardly hear me, but that’s fine, it’s loaded with laughs. The lowest-fi recording we made. The atmospheric grime adds to the charm. I’m actually surprised how little highway I hear. I edited down the two sides of a full 90 minute cassette into two long tracks: A side 30:06 / B side 31:36. There are two brief moments from my apartment demo tapes (you’ll hear my bass in one of them) on the A side. There are also lots of abrupt snippets of our band in full rock mode between passages since the boombox wasn’t all that great at erasing what was already on the tape. I love that layering. Mastered - with great subtlety - by Sam Torres at Polymouth. Now on Bandcamp. There’s a link in my profile. Enjoy ✨

This past Friday, Cubist Messiah from 2009 was rereleased on Bandcamp. Today, Is There Life After Birth? has been rereleased! It’s also from 2009, and one of my favorite records. There’s just something perfectly unified about this collection of songs. It’s quite melodic, and it flows effortlessly from beginning to end. Here’s a bit of heat vision. There’s a link in my profile if you’re curious. So few people heard the music when we originally sent out CDRs. I hope you all enjoy the LP, now properly mastered by Sam Torres at Polymouth. Ps - I wouldn’t recommend filming video while driving along the highway, but sunsets sometimes take your breath away 🌞

Happy #bandcampfriday 🌈 I wanted to release something special, so I present to you this tape recorded demo of Gold, sang with my sister @stanleepants , along with a visualizer using footage of my family (dad’s side) from the 90s. All proceeds benefit @acaciajustice 🌞 I recently stumbled across this recording from 2021 (when it randomly started playing on my iTunes one day) , and noticed a sense of sadness running through it that could mirror the present moment we are in - the daily weight of loss, families being torn apart, never ending conflicts, kids being left behind.. I wanted to share this version now to be seen/heard in this light, and also to support Acacia Center for Justice, a nonprofit that focuses its efforts on connecting unaccompanied children at the border to legal representation and/or family members. The work they do is vital in protecting immigrant children from trafficking, abuse & exploitation. Please take a listen/watch and donate if you can. All proceeds will go to @acaciajustice . Thank you ! Fabulous cover art by @christophermir 🖤 Thank you @helena_may_ for sending me all the footage And thank you to all my fam 🌷 #bandcamp #singlerelease #altfolk #acaciacenterforjustice

Murderous Bliss - a double LP Christopher Mir and I recorded at home in 2008 - has finally been properly mastered (by the mighty Sam Torres at Polymouth) and is now on Bandcamp ✨ I’d have to say, this collection contains some of the finest songs we wrote together. It’s loads of fun from beginning to end. At times, it’s truly unhinged. This tune, the opening track, is called night life forms. I’m on bass and synthesizer, Chris is singing and playing guitar. There aren’t any actual drums on this disc, which was unusual for us, but it’s loaded with wonky, electronic beats. I hope you all enjoy it, the album brings me tremendous joy.

A Delicate Beat Wildly Crashing reissue out today ✨ this LP was recorded mostly at home in 2007, and surreptitiously sent to unsuspecting friends DIY-style on CDRs via US mail. It’s finally been mastered (thank you Sam Torres at Polymouth!) and has never sounded better. In this excerpt, Christopher Mir and I are both playing bass, and our friend Russell Lord makes a guest appearance on drums (captured at Blue Reality studio with George Logan engineering). I’m also trying my very best to channel Brian Eno with a synthesizer and an echo pedal. What you see in this video is the sky - framed by the great James Turrell - and some ragged plastic ripped into cloud-like shreds I shot a few years back at Mass MoCA. I hope you all enjoy the record, it’s on Bandcamp, and there’s a link in my profile.

An Easter treat for you all: Hokusai Hairdo reissue out today ✨ this 2004 LP was a turning point for me into more overtly experimental territory. Many elements appear that I’d explore more fully on later discs (including long, open-ended song structures). Christopher Mir (vocals, guitar, keytar + more) Russell Lord (drums) Randy Bost (trumpet) Magdalena Zurawski (guitar) and yours truly (bass, keyboards + more) all make appearances. Much of the album was recorded at home, but significant parts were captured at Blue Reality with George Logan. Mastered, for the first time, by Sam Torres at Polymouth. My lovely, future wife Marie-France shot the ridiculously perfect cover photo. The original release was just a few dozen CDRs I sent out in the mail to unsuspecting friends. I’m so happy it can finally be heard by all. There’s a link to Bandcamp in my profile. Enjoy!

Rope Tricks reissue out today ✨ Christopher Mir (guitar) Russell Lord (drums) Randy Bost (trumpet) and I (bass + keyboard) recorded three improvisational, off-the-cuff tunes + sequenced them into a little gem. George Logan was behind the board in 2004. Recently mastered by Sam Torres. Shadow play by Bruno Munari (1907-1998). Cobblestone meander from a recent trip to the ancient streets of Bergamo. The cover is by Anna Kim, a great young artist I know. It’s on Bandcamp + there’s a link in my profile. I hope you all enjoy it!
