Last day of #asianheritagemonth

Highlighting some artists/small businesses and everyone who bring their talents and showcase the amazing, diverse, and beautiful culture within the Asian diaspora. This is just a tip of the iceberg, limited by the pics I can find, but wanted to make this post, even if it’s imperfect.

Pic 3 is Pho Nguyen in Montreal, and they provided the much needed comfort food on Friday at the end of a crazy start to my 3 day trip. They opened 2 years after I first moved to Montreal, but I am not sure if I had a chance to visit when I lived there.

Pic 11 is a Taiko drum performance from a Japanese group who tours the world and came to Roy Thompson Hall in 2025

Last pic is from the InCoWriMo letter writing session back in Feb. That was a really fun evening!

I was honoured to be an exhibitor at the 2025 Christmas One of A Kind Show. It was a full circle moment for me, as I have been attending the show for over 25 years and dreaming about launching my business for just as many years. Thanks to everyone who have been supporting my small business journey. ❤️

One of the most common pieces of advice I was given while preparing for the One of a Kind Show was that the food options were really limited. Of course, there were delicious things to sample in the “Flavours Section” and many treats gifted from friends and other exhibitors, but the actual “meal options” were literally just a few fast food trucks. So for an almost two-week all-day event, I knew I had to plan super intentionally for me and lil sis, as if I was prepping for a marathon (which is what it felt like at times).

I made slightly different variations of high-protein oatmeal for breakfast at home every day. Then for breakfast and lunch, I ensured every meal was high fibre, high protein, low spices/alliums (so as to not be worried about greeting customers with garlic breath etc.), and nothing too blood sugar-spiking. I tried to cook as many meals as I could while also timing out a few visits to Liberty Village and UberEats deliveries to the Enercare Centre when I knew work was going to be too busy.

It took a lot of time and effort, but man, do I feel better for having done it. Now that I’ve lived through it, I’ll pass on the same advice to anyone who is doing the show or any similar event - stay nourished out there!! 🙂

Had a great time at the @ooak_toronto show Late Night Party last week with @michellefriesen94 and @mastermazeproductions 🤗🥳 There were over 800 booths this year so I feel like there was almost TOO MUCH to see in one visit 😅 If the GO trains weren’t under construction I would’ve gone back for a second round on the weekend. Anywho I did find some new stuff in addition to the usual annual purchases. First is something called @fruitsalsanorthbay Fruit Salsa North Bay - which is not salsa but cherry and apple finely diced into a sort of fruit salad and served with freeze dried strawberry crusted tortilla chips. Very zippy and fun! 😍🍓🍎There were also these fruit “drink bombs” from @cocktailbombshopquebec that are like the same idea as bath bombs but they are made with dried fruit and you put them in sparkling water. They weren’t sampling them but they smell really nice so I’ll give them a whirl and report back. Oh and there was this new company from BC called @wonderbites.ca and they use Oakanogan peach pureè to make these soft peach gummies that are only 2g of sugar per bite. They are incredible! 🍑I also got some fancy Herb’s De Province mustard from @organics_and_gold , cherry cheesecake truffles from @byalinenasseh and some triple lemon honey from @heritagebeeco Plus so much more including the cutest cards and mini sardines print from @chuonthisstudio 😅 I’m going to have to figure out how to DIY one of those print machines 😍 We stayed till the very end and I managed to catch the last train and got home around 1am. I konked right out since I hit 18,000 steps for the day 😴 See you next season!

My friend and I have an annual tradition of spending hours @ooak_toronto

Supporting local, shopping local is something we have always loved even before it was something that our communities truly depended on.

Without sounding overly preachy, this is how we fuel others dreams- our artists, creators, small businesses depend on us. I will never understand the lure of funneling money into mega corps when we can buy from someone who sat for hours to paint something for you, or bake something for you or jump through hours of red tape to bring their product to market so you can try something that holds a memory for them.

I generally overspend at the food aisles at ooak lol food is my superior love language but here’s a few of the goodies I loved this year. Please go visit this weekend and support Canadian made products.

So many incredible vendors, tough to tag all. If you’ve tried something you loved- let me know ❤️

If you have the means to support, please do. If the times don’t allow for it, share with others. People often forget that buying is not the only way to support local, share, like, tell a friend. Those things are all simple ways we can keep this going.

Wishing you all an incredible Saturday! ❤️
