Barrel PH1 started a beer life, after 10 years in wine in 1999. You see @penelopegilliland and me filling it at New Belgium in 1999 as one of our first barrels. La Folie in the making.

We just filled again with wort #offcolorbrewing for it last fill before it moves on.

The barrel already had a good life and made excellent beer at New Belgium brewing, Russian River, The Rare Barrel, Purpose Brewing and Cellars, Side Project, and now at Off Color Brewing.

Where will she want to go next???

I always jumped at the chance to write about @tonyfitzpatrick9 After interviewing him I always left a better and more thoughtful person for it to say nothing of learning some of the most creative strings of curse words ever. So many lovely stories have been posted already about this amazing human who made so many of us proud to be Chicagoans. So grateful to all those who took time away from their own grieving to talk about Tony. That alone speaks volumes about who he was. Hug your loved ones a little closer today. Link in bio

Question: Can a 10 year old Stout taste good?
Answer: YES! I’m currently enjoying a 2015 @gooseisland Bourbon County Rare and I can unconditionally preach that this stout is as good and actually better than many others who have been brewed since! The carbonation has diminished over time, but the bourbon notes are still front and center! Wonderful aroma on the nose and overall time has been good to this dark nectar! Not sure I’ll ever have the chance to taste another 2015 Rare; this one and all of my prior Rare tastings have this in the top of any Stout I’ve ever enjoyed! Kudos to @jaredthebeerguy and everyone else involved in bringing this 2015 Rare to life!

Do you love a smoke out? 12-time James @beardfoundation Award- winning @oneoffhospitality hosted a star studded chef smoke out @publicanqualitybread Chicago. One Off Hospitality also operates many incredible restaurants like @avecchicago @publicanchicago & @publicanquality.

There were several parties during the James Beard Awards. This fantastic one featured talented chefs sharing some of the best bites ever. We were welcomed gratuitously by JBA winning baker @gregwadebakes & co-host @chefdylanpatel Exec Chef of avec, who also invited several chef friends to the party.

Every bite we experienced was magical. Chef Wade was making a green garlic cacio e pepe Neapolitan pizza. I was amazed with his technique of steaming ice on the dough in the oven to create a sauce. He’s so brilliant!

@chef_marcosascencio & @chef_oliverpoilevey from @mariscossanpedro served up an octopus taco with chili crisp. It was one mind blowing bite.

I love a fantastic sandwich. @chefjohnmanion @elchechicago fired up a grilled @nimanranch picanha sandwich with chimmi aioli, arugula & giardiniera. The flavors were truly out of this world.

Chef @lorynnalic @telvastl a 2025 JBA Best Chef: Midwest finalist made a sogan dolma with onion, beef, kajmak, & herbs. I literally got goosebumps on my first bite. This memory will always stay with me.

I love @chefdominiqueleach @lexingtonbettysmokehouse. She was serving up Fred Flintstone’s favorite, “dino ribs” with Mexican corn salsa. Go big or go home!

I’m always down for a chicken wing & Chef Patel took it to the next level with his peri peri chicken wings topped with a blue cheese & garlic toom. The sauce made me happy.

No party is complete without sweets. We were treated to some of the best from @leighomilinsky @daisieschicago, a 2025 JBA Outstanding Pastry Chef & Baker semifinalist. I also received a fantastic cider pour from legend @cidergreg @virtuecider.

The vibe of the party was in the music. Chef @revisecmw @kimskichicago kept the beats thumping. I love when a chef can mix it up on a turntable.

A huge thanks to @donniemadia @paulkahan & the One Off Hospitality team for throwing an epic party!
