“I will show you a clip that is a couple of seconds long,” I said to @giuliamttr, @nathan.odm, and @leoniecarb, first via message, and then again in person. “And I want you to know that this is a postcard you all received this morning. It has a moving image on it. Now you are here, gathered after a long time, and you begin your hanging-out time by discussing this strange object that arrived in your mailbox. Action!” Three long-distance best friends, ten minutes of a single-take recording, and a one-year-long process of lengthening this orphan film segment (which somehow still hasn’t ended) - and I am crazy excited to present this piece of work, which, in its own abstract way, engages with subjects very dear to me and to my filmmaking practice: magical encounters, collective spectatorship, the material image as an object, and archival imagination and speculation. My first thank-you goes to @labocine for including A Game of Chess in their January 2026 issue on “Archives,” which allowed me to rework the editing and officially put it out there in the open. My second heartfelt thank-you goes to @creationsenurgence, @familyfilmproject, and @hereandelsewherefest for being the first places to hold and present my first ever student film. I couldn’t have dreamt of better spaces for A Game of Chess to find its way to more people. The rest of the thank-yous go to every single person involved in the making of A Game of Chess. There is no ‘ethnographic’ film without a community, and this is only the first step toward building something that will hopefully last (or not - what is the point of holding on if we are not prepared to let go eventually?). My heart is bursting with happiness right here and now, and I guess that is what matters. 💌🧿

6 years of Solax Film Club and counting! With the screening of “We Came This Far”: 10 shorts by talented immigrant filmmakers in the country right now. What a bunch! Thank you all for coming this far with me, with us! For trusting your films with us. The way is much more interesting and hopeful if we go together. There are definitely more things that unite us than divide us. We’re all crossing borders & being a foreigner somewhere and for someone, and it’s beautiful. Thank you the community in Ireland, those who took us in and joined forces. This why is worth doing it. Together we raised €551 to the victims of the Venezuelan earthquake ♥️ Thank you Anton at Sean O’Casey Community Centre! We’ll see you shortly 👋🏽 slán, abraços y besitos! On the road to decolonising the gaze and making a more inclusive cinematic experience 🚗 💨 #popupcinema #arthousecinema #decolonisation #solaxfilmclub #dublinevents

EVAPORATING BORDERS (2014), FEB 15th, 8:00pm By Iva Radivojevic (@ivarad ) An essay in five parts, Evaporating Borders offers a series of vignettes, poetically guided by the filmmaker’s curious eye and personal reflections. Through the people she encounters along the way, the film dissects the experience of asylum seekers in Cyprus : A PLO activist and exile from Iraq is denied asylum within 15 minutes; neo-nazi fundamentalists roam the streets in an attack on Muslim migrants; activists and academics organize an antifascist rally and clash with the neo-nazis; 195 migrants drown in the Mediterranean. Originally from Yugoslavia and an immigrant to Cyprus, Iva Radivojevic investigates the effects of large-scale immigration on the sense of national identity in one of the easiest ports of entry into Fortress Europe. Poetically photographed and rendered, the film passionately weaves the themes of migration, tolerance, identity and belonging. This screening is part of the 3 days program “The sea as a witness: an archeological memory” that will take place between the 13th and 15th of February in Nicosia in collaboration with @endrosia

ERRANS (2020), FEB 14th, 8:30 pm By Mira Adoumier A woman arrives in Lebanon in search of a missing man, whom she met in Iceland a few years ago. Here, the buildings and landscapes still bear the traces of past conflicts, and the missing friend’s absence is haunting the deserted and labyrinthine streets of Beirut. The siren song of the sea draws her to the south, towards Earth’s mystical centre. Mira Adoumier’s ‘Errans’ is an aural and visual essay which evokes the alienating sense of exile that the filmmaker herself grew up with. A beautiful and levitating visual work from a place and a state of mind where myths and cultures occupy parallel spaces. With Iceland’s rugged landscapes and Beirut’s urban topography as the two coordinates that her film is stretched out between, Adoumier’s background as an artist is evident in her first longer film work. But there is also an elliptical narrative embedded in the impressionistic form of ‘Errans’. This screening is part of the 3 days program “The sea as a witness: an archeological memory” that will take place between the 13th and 15th of February in Nicosia in collaboration with @endrosia
