Join us this Friday the 11th at 7:00 pm for our live cine- concert « Common Currents », in collaboration with Visual Voices, curated by Cindy Chehab and featuring musician Zenonas Economides.

This live performance brings together two territories that hold layers of commonalities, opening up a space for wonder and conversation. Starting from home movies filmed by tourists in Cyprus and Lebanon during the 1960s and 1970s, we come together to look at these images and witness what it is that the local communities have been deprived of for the longest of times.

📍Visual Voices: 83 Aischylou Street, 1011 Nicosia.

Visuals from the IICADOM archive collection, travel, Lebanon, 1970.

The last day, Day 3, of the HERE & ELSEWHERE Film Festival is split in two!
The morning brought us the Here & Now while the evening programme has been curated by none other than our 2026 spotlight director! ✨

What Would the Archive Remember? By Cindy Chehab @cindychebab

Cindy will also be there in person! Presenting her program and involved in other activities. Catch her in Rome or Beirut! 🇮🇹 🇱🇧
Her programme brings together Here & Elsewhere x Second Lives: Speculative Edits from the Archive, featuring work by Faranak Nateghi, Ruba Al Charki, Enxhi Noni and Cindy Chehab herself.

Starting from archival images, both public and personal, these films explore how private histories can enter wider conversations, and how images can shift when seen from another angle.

👉 Swipe through to discover the films screening on the evening of the last day of the 2026 edition of HERE & ELSEWHERE!

Kartzin SEA Lab x Visual Voices presents “Common currents”, a Cine-concert curated by Cindy Chehab with the live performance by Zenonas Economides

Change of plans: instead of the window-shop screening, curator Cindy Chehab will share the performance online

Live performance: Friday, 11.09.26, 19:00-20:30
Public Screenings: 12.09.26-25.09.26
Kartzin SEA Lab x Visual Voices at Aischylou 83, 1011 Nicosia

The cine-concert stages a dialogue between British travelogue footage and home movies of Lebanon and Cyprus, accompanied by a live folk music performance by Zenonas Economides. The performance brings together two archives rarely seen side by side: the travelogue, with its aerial shots and postcard framing, built to present Lebanon and Cyprus through an ‘oriental eye’, coastlines and ruins arranged for a viewer who was never meant to live there; and the home movies shot by the people who actually did. Lebanon and Cyprus are presented here as two coastlines shaped by shared currents of trade and migration. Performed live by Zenonas Economides, folk music becomes a third voice in this exchange: it responds, interrupts, erupts. It traces melodies that moved between island and mainland long before any travelogue thought to point a camera at them, and at times it corrects what the oriental eye left out or flattened into scenery.

“Common Currents” takes place as part of Kartzin, a Visual Voices initiative funded by the Commonwealth Foundation.
