This year, we IABF introduced a contemporary track! Huge thank you to Cindy for leading us so graciously into the brand new world of contemporary including improv, beginning floor work and beautiful flows. We are thrilled that Cindy will be back with us in 2027 for more contemporary! (To the bunheads, don’t worry, you can still do ballet all day long at IABF 😉) 🧡🧡

The highlight of summer always includes the @iabf_adultballetfestival Every year I think it can’t get more magical and yet it does. Over the years I’ve seen myself grow as a dancer, learn new definitions of what it means to be brave, fill my life with beautiful friendships and shed many tears of joy and gratitude for this amazing community of like minded people. It’s truly a bubble of joy and a safe and uplifting place to be, in a world that isn’t always easy. This year I stepped out of my comfort zone to try contemporary dance and fell in love with it. Dancing in @cindydanz corp piece Becoming was a dream come true. Thank you @julietheballerina for the magic you put together each year. And thank you to @alignfitnessbyallie for the beyond generous subscription to your dancer strong platform. I love being surrounded by people so passionate about taking adult dancers seriously and helping us achieve our dreams as adults. And as always to @_tomoni for capturing the week and the beautiful photoshoot . My heart is truly full. 💞💐🩰

IABF 2026 | PART 2: Corps de ballet This year’s corps de ballet rep featured the Garland Waltz, Alice in Wonderland, and Waltz of the Hours ... ... PLUS something new... jazz and contemporary! Many of the dancers who chose to join those pieces had never done jazz or contemporary before, and they rose to the challenge and performed beautifully. Learning choreography over Zoom and staging it together in person in just a few short hours is always a massive challenge, but our dancers and choreographers consistently put in the work to make it look effortless. We were completely blown away by how everyone came together on show day. A huge thank you to our brilliant choreographers this year: *Kelsey Maloney-Steiner *Jena Kocsis *Sean Kelly *Cindy Heen *Julie Leung And a special congratulations to Lauren, who went above and beyond to support her fellow dancers throughout the process, earning our Sportsmanship Award. We are truly a team! The festival wouldn't be the same without the camaraderie built through bringing these wonderful projects to life. Together we shine! ✨ What should we bring to the stage in 2027??

“I’d rather spend my life close to the birds than waste it wishing I had wings.” 🕊️ On March 12, 2011, I saw @alvinailey live at @foxtheatrestl courtesy of @dance_stl student tickets while in my undergrad at @websterudance I went home that night and made a very cringey, very cheesy Facebook post (the details of which I won’t subject you to so I can save you from your own secondhand embarrassment). Point being, I was so inspired, so moved, so consumed by what I had seen that night. I wanted to find a way to make this legacy a part of my life in dance - I just didn’t know then where that fire would take me. Things don’t always work out the way you might want, might think… the way you plan or hope for. And here’s where that quote 👆 comes in. Learning to live in the present and find joy in reality is just as important as dreaming big dreams, because sometimes you’re lucky enough to watch reality and your dreams collide 🤗🗽 I spent 5 days in my favorite city in @theaileyschool meeting my cohort (deemed the Revelations cohort) for the in-person intensive-kick-off of the Ailey Horton Technique / Ailey Teacher Certification Program 2026-2027 with the amazing @lakeyevanspena and @tinman_5678 Considering how much I learned in just those 5 days, I can only imagine what’s to come these next 32 weeks! I’m so excited I can’t even stand it! #dreamsworkwhenyoudo #aileyhortontechnique #lifelongstudent #moderndance #nycpizzagram

Week 2 of a 2 week run of nationals has concluded with us getting back home last night just before 1am. Kitties are happy we are back. 🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛🐈‍⬛ An amazing week and beautiful dancing from our studio. Rae’s “It’s Hard to Be the Bard” earned a spot in the finals as did her group routine, “Greenback Boogie” where they channeled Meredith Blake’s demeanor with precision. Rae would not be where she is without supportive teammates, instructors and coaches. It takes a village. Her contemporary and musical theater solo pieces bounced back and forth all season concluding with both earning the highest adjudication possible, Intense Platinum. Rae choreographed her contemporary piece while Juliana choreographed musical theater. Sibling Rivalry on full display for the second year in a row. 😂😂😂 Greenback Boogie performed finals in front of the one and only Abby Lee Miller @therealabbylee . Rae’s starting position in the number just about gave Ms Abby a front row seat to her. And the choreography allowed each team member do the same as the routine progressed. A memorable moment for sure! When videos become available, I shall post them. It’s been an amazing season of accolades for our team. Can’t wait to see what is in store for next year. Thank you to Miss Heather, Miss Veronica and Miss Lilly for your coaching and guidance. Thank you to Juliana for Shakesepeare. Thank you to @hannahcampchoreo for Greenback Boogie. Thank you to all the instructors and coaches who came to support our team this past week. (I hope I got everyone tagged). It’s been in10nse. Pun intended. Onward to Rae’s 11th year of dance and 9th year of comp team. (I was terrible with pics and video this week so you get what you get. Including a dancer’s luggage because she left the day before and I had to load the car on my own. 😬)
