CinemaO @cinema_o_ transforms a former industrial space into a cultural infrastructure centred around cinema. Rather than neutralising the character of the existing building, the project takes its industrial nature and productive logic as a starting point, superimposing a second infrastructure: cinema itself, understood as a spatial machine organising relationships between structure, audience and scene. Rather than reproducing the image of a theatre as a finished, autonomous interior, the project exposes its underlying logic, translating the relationship between stage and backstage, atmosphere and infrastructure, softness and technology into a spatial system. The existing industrial space is treated not as a container to be transformed, but as an active condition of the project. A new machine-system is introduced: a technical wall and ceiling that accommodate and organise the infrastructures required by the cultural programme. Lighting, acoustic treatment, technical equipment and services are integrated into this system, allowing the architecture to operate simultaneously as spatial framework and working apparatus. Technical elements remain visible, making the functional complexity of the space perceptible. The project develops through a sequence of spatial operations. A functional block incorporating a mezzanine forms a threshold between the entrance and the main room, mediating between the existing structure and the new programme. Beyond it, the machine-system defines the infrastructural core, while curtains introduce a complementary layer of softness. Their adaptability allows enclosure and intimacy to shift according to different uses, while contributing to the acoustic performance of the space. CinemaO understands cinema not simply as a place where films are shown, but as an architectural apparatus: a machine that produces conditions for attention, gathering, projection and collective experience, allowing the technical and atmospheric dimensions of cinema to coexist and, at times, become indistinguishable. . @_carlorizzo_ @meowlita

✨soundframe and Civa director Eva Fischer @eva0707 was invited by MUTEK Forum Montréal @mutekmontreal to host the panel Listening at the Edge: Sound, Quantum Physics, and the Act of Attention! Inspired by Pauline Oliveros’ practices of Deep Listening and Quantum Listening, the conversation brings sound and quantum physics into dialogue to ask: What is listening? And what happens when we understand listening not as passive perception, but as an active practice that can change both what is perceived and the listener? Together with quantum physicist Alexandre Blais, sound artist and composer France Jobin france_jobin, composer and performer Kara-Lis Coverdale @k__lc, and interdisciplinary artist Rena Anakwe @aspaceforsound, the panel moves between quantum physics, sonic and audiovisual practice, embodied knowledge, attention and different ways of engaging with indeterminacy. MUTEK Forum, Montréal Listening at the Edge: Sound, Quantum Physics, and the Act of Attention Moderated by Eva Fischer / soundframe, Civa Presented by NEW INC @newinc As part of the panel, Eva Fischer will also introduce the recently published book Quantum and the Moving Image, exploring the intersections of quantum theory, moving-image practices and contemporary art. The publication, which is the first edition of The Black Cube, was co-edited with Fondazione CinemaO @cinema_o_ and supported by by the Federal Ministry of Housing, Arts, Culture, Media and Sport (BMWKMS) Austria @kunstkulturministerium And already something to look forward to in Vienna: later this year, soundframe, MUTEK and AIL – Angewandte Interdisciplinary Lab @ail_vienna are joining forces for a special collaboration. Together, we will invite a live performer from Québec to AIL in Vienna. More soon — stay tuned! ✨

Blueprints is a new initiative of Locarno Factory and Fondazione CinemaO (@cinema_o_). A forum that explores how emerging technologies and scientific breakthroughs are reshaping creativity and storytelling in the decade ahead. From August 7 to 9 and 11 to 13, we gather at 9 am in the beautiful courtyard of the Castello Visconteo. Six public conversations, each centered on a transformative idea, debated with a leading thinker of our time. What will we create with computers that are alive? Whose story will we remember? What foundations are we building for future authors? What is the cultural afterlife of the quantum revolution? Are we ready to build a new creative economy? What will we be capable of imagining? The paradigms now taking shape — led by artificial intelligence, quantum science and advanced computing, together with the hardware, data and investment infrastructures they depend on — are redrawing more than economies and geopolitics. They reach into our cultural identities, and into the terms on which creative work gets made. How the current generation of artists, creative professionals, and entrepreneurs learns to work with these technologies — and what it makes of them — will shape what storytelling looks like ten years from now. A new “creative deeptech” frontier is emerging, where advanced science and technology meet the making of culture. Blueprints exists to direct our collective intelligence to the exploration of this new frontier — to create a space where fresh lines of inquiry can generate new knowledge. The 2026 Blueprints programme is curated by Carlo Rizzo (@_carlorizzo_) and Giulia Yoko Galbarini (@meowlita), co-founders of Fondazione CinemaO. This year’s speakers will include (in programming order) 07.08 Ewelina Kurtys, 08.08 Stefanie Schulte Strathaus, 09.08 Philippe Rixhon, 11.08 Sabrina Maniscalco, 12.08 Jenny Fielding & Aldo Podestà, and 13.08 Renée Cummings.
