📣 ON THIS DAY: On June 24, 2022, the U.S. Supreme Court officially overturned Roe v. Wade in the landmark Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization decision.

By a 6–3 vote, the Court ruled that the U.S. Constitution does not provide a right to abortion, ending nearly 50 years of federal protections and returning the authority to regulate the procedure to individual states.

This marks the first time in history that the Supreme Court revoked a fundamental right.

Join us this Monday in partnership with Hypertext Magazine for a reading observing the anniversary of this historic loss of reproductive rights and reflecting on its lasting impact.

✨Featuring Della Leavitt; author of Vivian’s Decision, and Tara Betts, Cecilia Pinto, Michele Morano, and Cin Salach; contributors from The Overturning Anthology.

📌 Monday June 29th / 6:30 pm
📍 Pilsen Community Books / 1531 W. 18th St.

✨ Yesterday I brought my soul to work — and left completely full. 🙌🏾
The ALTAR Open House in partnership with @womenbelong was everything. A full day of learning, connecting, and growing with an incredible community of women. Here’s a peek at what made it so special 👇
☕ 9AM — Coffee, Conversation & Coworking
The perfect soft landing to start the day — emails, intentions, and good energy all in one room.
🔵 10AM — Welcome & Opening Circle
Setting the tone together.
💛 10:30AM — “The Right to Belong” with @dwrosen
A mindset shift I didn’t know I needed — moving from “How do I fit in?” to “I have every right to be here.” Period.
📸 11:45AM — “The Moment Before the Camera” with @spidermeka of SpiderMeka Portraits
This session hit different. The confidence she poured into us before stepping in front of a lens? Unmatched. And she said something I’ll never forget — if a cake doesn’t taste good, you blame the baker. So why is it that when a photo doesn’t turn out right, we blame ourselves for not being pretty enough instead of the photographer? 🎂 We are not the problem, sis. Never were. 😆
🥗 12:30PM — Community Lunch with @foodbyfare
Nourishing food + nourishing conversation. Yes to all of it.
🤝 2PM — “The Practice of Generous Networking” with @kate_alpert
Networking without the ick. This workshop rewired how I think about showing up for others.
✍🏾 3:30PM — “Write Yourself Whole” with @cinsalach
We wrote. We felt. We remembered who we are. And can I just say — I was AMAZED by the talent in that room! 😭 The poets that showed up and showed OUT had me speechless. Women walking around with all of this gift just living their regular lives?! Chicago is STACKED. 🎤✨ A beautiful close to a beautiful day.

If you’re a woman in Chicago, you NEED to know about this space. 📍 2518 W Armitage Ave, Chicago, IL — @altarcommunity @chicago.bites.social

This week, DCASE and the @chicagopubliclibrary premiered Chicago’s inaugural Poet Laureate avery r. young’s “Chicago Soul Poem: A City That Writes Together” project at @poetryfoundation. ✒️

The project invited Chicagoans to pay tribute to a person, place or thing indicative of the Second City through the form of a new poetic form created by young, the soloem (pronounced so-lo-em).

Over the next month, our social feeds will highlight soloems from the collection, celebrating the people, places and things that make our city what it is, beginning with avery’s own words.

The full project includes 31 videos, and all can be seen at Chicago.gov/PoetLaureate. 📝

Last night was the Chicago Soul Poem: A City That Writes Together full video release and what a night it was.
I want to thank everyone who came out to celebrate at the Poetry Foundation. The room was full of love, community, and Chicago brilliance. 🖤✨

Stomping Grounds Audiovisual Production was running double duty: supporting the Poetry Foundation AND managing the full film screening. The entire team showed out. Huge thank you to Uran Kabashi and his family. None of this is possible without this entire team.

Deep gratitude to Avery R. Young, Chicago Poet Laureate, for trusting us with this vision and leading such a powerful night. Thank you to the full Poetry Foundation team, especially Noa Fields, and to our amazing DCASE partners, including Amanda Carlson.

Big love to Jermaine Nolen and Leslé Honoré for their live performances. One of the most beautiful moments of the night was seeing Leslé and Azreya meet for the first time and Avery bringing them on stage together. Even though Dahlia couldn’t attend, her voice message lifted the whole room.

And of course thank you to EVERY poet whose voice built the Chicago Soul Poem series. Your words are the soul of this city:

Ed Roberson

As healers, caregivers, and nurturers, we give endlessly. True healing begins when we choose to nourish ourselves- mind, body, and spirit.

In my latest blog post, I’m sharing 5 powerful ways to replenish your energy and reconnect to your center - from slowing down and grounding your nervous system, to nourishing your body with love, and remembering your connection to nature.

Because slowing down isn’t selfish-it’s sacred 🌿

Read the full post (link in bio) for practical ways to restore your energy and inspiration. Or join us at our next one-day Nourishment Retreat for Womem in Chicago for a deeper reset.
