💌 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑰 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒉 (𝒂𝒔 𝒂 𝒕𝒊𝒓𝒆𝒅 9-5 𝒈𝒊𝒓𝒍𝒊𝒆): June reads recap/ mini reviews

This month has been a solid reading month filled with exciting new releases considering I didn’t get to read for about a week and a half due to trip to Seattle & work.

🤍 Read
- We Were Forbidden by Jacqueline Harpman* (Out 7/7)
- Too L.A.: Letters Never Sent by Eve Babitz*
- Cathedrals by Claudia Piñeiro*
- Gold by Rumi
- Whistler by Ann Patchett* (listened to audiobook ALC on )

*gifted kindly by @transitbooks @nyrbooks @charcopress @librofm. All opinions are my own.

🤍 Still reading
* The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
Admittedly, I forgot how good this book is for a little bit while reading other books in between (perk of being neurodivergent). But I am back at it now, taking my time with it & absolutely adoring it.

One calls this writing. Well I'm not writing, I'm living.

And they call this living but I don't think I am living either.

I am being lived, I am the inside of myself peeled away and posted layer after layer, only I'm not sure what the next layer will unveil.

When every layer is peeled what will there be left?, what core will fall when the last strip is gone? I am dying as we all are, I am awaiting that day with a heart knowing that it will feel calm, a relief amidst the grief . . .

A year has yielded all of this for myself, and not only a year of reading but a year with the wonderful people that draw me out of myself and my comfortable reality of hellish horrors.

I knew no one and no one knew me, and so they all take what I give them, and I feel their warmth wash over me.

One calls this dying but I am not dying alone. I can crawl out from calamity and discontinue my dying for a little longer until I see the end of The Tunnel, a V.enture to take on Satan’s tango within, before my So(u)l(enoid) leaves me trapped in The Bell Jar of my own making.

What is this you ask? A trip down my memory lane, I suppose, though a scroll on my profile can offer some of the same.

We are not the same as we once were, and the old we is gone.

One calls this writing, but I call this dying.

This little book felt like stepping into Frida Kahlo’s inner world—raw, vulnerable, and fiercely alive. “L’immagine era un gioco” isn’t a traditional biography, but that’s exactly what makes it special. It’s made of glimpses, letters, and thoughts that reveal a woman who used art to survive, to love, to resist. I found myself pausing often, rereading certain lines just to sit with them a bit longer.

Thank you @lormaeditore & @poveronicola for the copy ✨📚#giftedby

Sandra Diaries 2: Bookish pockets

Who am I kidding. I’m a girl, I can’t fit anything in my pockets. I’m not even sure I own more than one pair of jeans with actual pockets. They’re all fake. But the trend was cute so pretend to have pockets with me ♡
