Art is for everyone. It doesn’t have to be fancy. It doesn’t have to be perfect. 👌 Making art is about expression. About stepping out of time to connect with something unexplainable. For me, it’s a way to process without words. I’ve been tracking my menstrual cycle through my journals for the last decade and they look something like this. Shoutout to @anamariazabala and @_aya_ora_ for showing me the way 🌈 Every time I create a new monthly calendar, I use the same basic structure, elements, and language that’s personal to me to track changes. But the designs that grow around it are always different. I simply take time for myself to create. There’s no need for it to ‘become’ anything. #independantartist #artiststudio #artjournal #lunarcalendar #menstrualcycle

‘Linaje’ 2025 💎 Acrylic on canvas. FINE ART PRINTS AVAILABLE SOON in a limited series. [Español abajo] I’m happy to finally share a special commission made last year for @maternidadlaluz_birthcenter ✨ It was made to hold the path of every soul making its way to earth. A (placenta) tree or roots support the growth of footprints - impressions on heart shaped leaves - marking the birth of each baby born at the clinic. In this way, ‘Linaje’ is a collaborative journey involving each family, their support team of midwives and students, and the passage of time. It’s special to see how the tree grows 🩵 A mother sits at a spring, safe-keeping a well of memories. Roots tap into her ancestral lineage. She meditates and connects with her higher self and baby. She sits within a powerful energy that comes from beyond her. There is peace, calm, quiet, and stillness. Her presence is reassuring.

My sister midwives—the ones who hold each other up when the journey feels heavy, who hold each other close when new life arrives, and who celebrate every birth together. 🤍 Midwifery is not just what we do; it is who we are, what we share, and the legacy we leave behind. Thank you for being here, for believing, for walking this journey together, and for answering the call

The midwife floor. 🤍 Because birth doesn’t come with a script—and neither do we. We find ourselves wherever the mother needs us: beside the bed, on the floor, in the shower, leaning over a birth ball, kneeling beside her, or sometimes simply holding space in the quiet. We never know exactly where we’ll end up. And that’s the beauty of it. We don’t ask a mother to fit birth into a position that’s convenient for us. We meet her where she is. We follow her body, her instincts, her rhythm, and her choices. The floor isn’t just where we sometimes end up. It’s where we witness strength. Where we support surrender. Where we catch tears, breathe through intensity, whisper encouragement, and watch a woman discover just how powerful she is. Birth changes the room. Birth changes the woman. And sometimes, birth brings us all the way down to the floor. 🤍 And we’re honored to be there.

This week's newsletter was a Special Edition as we focused on the amazing things that happened in Costa Rica over the last week. Pura Vida, indeed. The excitement for San José started to grow with the realization that the mix of providers who would be attending was something never before seen in Costa Rica. Obstetricians, nurses, and homebirth midwives would be gathering together to learn something somewhat "taboo." This was already breaking barriers. Then...both locations in San José and Montezuma sold out! Kristine was ready to go, and it may have been one of her favorite groups yet (and that says a lot!). She reported that everyone was prepared and engaged. It could not have been a better training. This would not be the first time that Kristine taught during the day, and then one of the attendees attended a breech birth immediately following the training. However, it was the first time that an obstetrical nurse/midwife and an OB, both present at the training, attended a primip breech together (at the largest private hospital in Costa Rica) immediately following the training! Congrats to midwife Maria Laura, mama, and Dr. Paer! Dr. Paer shared these stats with us: Primip: 40 + 4 19 hours in labor 3140g 51cm in length Apgars: 8-9 Some of our BWB community may remember Dr. Adam Paer joining our July 24, 2024 live session to discuss a breech birth attended by one of his colleagues. Right after the training day, it was Dr. Paer's turn to assist a breech. As he was on his way to do so, he promised Kristine that he will be sending more videos soon. Update: He has a another breech mama who is due any day! That is a most incredible way to end a training day! -Please visit our website to sign up for the newsletter for inspirational stories like this one.
