PART 6 Story Day Accessibility: Nurturing Access and Equity was a rich tapestry of diverse and powerful stories and songs—moments of challenge, vulnerability, and hope. Through honest sharing and deep listening, we were reminded of both the barriers that persist and the beauty of community that forms when space is made for every voice.

Many participants shared that they felt renewed through the experience—a reminder that sharing space together is important.

The day invited us to ask hard questions about accessibility and ableism:
• What barriers do people face, seen and unseen?
• How have exclusion and assumptions shaped our culture?
• How can we reduce and even eliminate these barriers?

As Disability Advocate Alice Wong reminds us, “There is so much that we can learn from the wisdom that often comes with disability. But space needs to be made. Hands need to reach out. People need to be lifted up.”

Rooted in a shared commitment to address poverty and injustice, we gathered as guests at a common table. Together we practiced being good guests: making room, listening deeply, and choosing curiosity over certainty. We embraced the “messy middle,” where we can disagree without disconnection and hold both challenge and compassion.

In prayer and reflection, we gave thanks for the stories, songs, and small details that spoke dignity and belonging—each gesture a reminder that access and equity are not abstract ideals but lived expressions of justice.

As we move beyond this day, we carry forward the invitation to forge deeper and more transformative connections with one another. Let this not be the end of the conversation, but a beginning.

Let’s keep working for justice.
Let’s keep making room.
And may hope—defiant, persistent, and tender—continue to hold us.

It has been a whirlwind of activity since Story Day on October 22nd. Here are just a handful of pictures from the day and the subsequent week. Very grateful for everything and everyone, including the friends who travelled a great distance to be a part of things. More reflection and pictures to come!
