Tonight I’ll be embroidering this jaguar onto my quilt, as part of @gallerynightmke at @saintkatearts for my Inviting Abundance exhibition with @museumofwiart! 🐆🐅 I photographed sweet Filly at the @milwaukeecozoo.

I began this new 3x3’ quilt while teaching at @sanbornmillsfarm last week. 💕 My next in person retreat is with @ayafiberstudio, link in bio.

My adventure in Penland Pit firing! I had such a wonderful time being a studio assistant for @penlandschool session 7, Traditional Cherokee Handbuilding. I’m still processing how intense and exhausting this past week has been, but the joy and gratitude that surrounded our class was so special and inspiring. Thank you to Dorine and Dean for letting me help y’all teach a technique so special and culturally important. Thank you to my class for being so supportive, kind, and funny. I met so many talented and hardworking people in and out of my studio, i truly couldn’t have done it without y’all! Missing the dirt and mud and Lizella already.

@penlandschool Amazing week of pottery taught by @dorinegeorge.dg and Dean Reed. We learned native Cherokee techniques and "burned down the house" in the final gallery show with our show stopping pieces!

My newest piece - Bluebird is Calling.
I’ve had this photo transferred on fabric hanging around my studio for a couple years just waiting…….Finally found it a home! I snapped the pic on my way up Mt Rigi in Switzerland. I’ve included some dyed pieces from @michellecoxcreative ; a fun bird on fabric given to me by @cjuska ; wool pieces from @sewingbasketfun . All my perle cotton threads & the Sashiko piece came from @artistic_artifacts . I’m pretty sure the 2 vintage buttons I got in France at @ultramodmercerieparis . The background fabric is Tim Holtz from his Palette Collection.

DAY 3 highlighting Works in Progress:
•Begun July 2025 while teaching a 1-day Zoom class for @cambridgemodernquiltguild 🎨❤️ (see slide 2)
•Returned to the top in February as a simple, on-the-go project while traveling to attend #quiltcon & a retreat with friends after. (Note my lovely 3” hoop!)
•I loved the juxtaposition of tiny & big so much that I’ll be teaching it in Florida this Nov/Dec with @ayafiberstudio! Registration has just recently opened. 🎉

Peace. What does “make peace” mean to you? What about “disturb peace?” The dual concepts of “make peace” and “disturb peace” are antagonistically opposed and mutually exclusive, but is one more virtuous than the other?

Making peace can be thought of as an ultimate goal - both personally and globally. One may strive for inner peace and wish for peace on Earth.
Disturbing the peace is a criminal offense. War is an evil of man.
Yet, to make peace in a relationship is often an act of survival. Disturbing peace can often be, to paraphrase Congressman John Lewis, necessary good trouble.

Would you “make peace” in order to survive, even if it means losing some of yourself? Would you disturb peace in order to maintain/reclaim your personal identity and freedom, the identity and freedom of others, or the soul of your country?

So many incredible works of art in #SoftMagicExhibition at @wmquiltfiberarts. I’ll be there Sunday afternoon, soaking up the final hours of the show. Thank you to curator @emilyschlemowitz for bringing my midcareer retrospective with inspirations, collaborators & students to life, it’s been a dream come true. ❤️ Artists are tagged in the photos.

Community in craft is such a deeply special thing—something I continue to learn from in new ways. One of my favorite memories from Zak Foster’s Narrative Quilt Making class @penlandschool came after weeks of thoughtful prompts, shared meals, and stitching in community.

One beer-filled evening, a late-night conversation sparked the idea for a “10 Hour Quilt Challenge,” which eventually evolved into the more forgiving “Quilt in a Day” challenge.

I challenged and coached the detail-oriented @mckennakellner to make a quilt using only what she had on hand, leaning into intuitive piecing and problem-solving over perfection. What came out of it was a beautiful piece—and it inspired a small group of us to... run it back.

Big thanks to @mondriaanfonds and @penlandschool for supporting my craft, to @zakfoster.quilts for giving us the tools and the space to explore, to our classmates for embracing our wild ideas, to @cjuska and @elizabethekurtz for being our ultimate cheerleaders, and to the whole “quilt in a day” crew—from our DJ @art.hour.mayhem to our wellness coach @reesquinnn to the sewing machine setup and pit crew @billjrjr and @mckennakellner.

This memory is stitched into my heart.
