@adamotlewski calls it Untitled, almost daring you to give it a name—but it doesn’t need one. I use it in a project every chance I get, because it’s the perfect companion to a chair, a drink, or anything worth highlighting.

It has real weight to it, and the details are what set it apart. What stays with me most is the living finish, which only gets better with time. Some pieces are meant to stay pristine. This isn’t one of them.

Side tables are often the forgotten furniture piece but I promise you- this one is memorable.

It started with dinner benefiting @ltbhs231, where I had the pleasure of talking about Ulysses S. Cat and Other Animals I Have Known with Austin Rowlader of Interlochen Public Radio’s @pointsnorthpodcast. Every table had a stuffed animal perched on a stack of books, and every guest had a chance to help an animal find a home. That felt exactly right for a book about the creatures who’ve shaped our lives.

The next day I joined a panel at @hs_bookfest with @isaac.fitzgerald and @cks.collective, moderated by the wonderful Mardi Link. Readers packed the tent on a perfect fall afternoon.

We closed it out last night at @dennosmuseumcenter in Traverse City, in conversation with IPR News Director @edroncoipr before a warm, generous crowd. Thank you, northern Michigan, for your hospitality, your bookstores, your public radio, and your love of animals. Please consider supporting the Humane Society at ltbhs.org. There’s a Ulysses waiting there for someone.

Design Chicago 2026 ✨

Two days immersed in new product launches, education, inspiration, and community.
How lucky are we to work in an industry where we create beauty and a little magic while enhancing the way people live?

I loved learning from those who have accomplished so much, mentoring those just beginning their design journeys, and reconnecting with trusted vendors and partners I’ve worked with throughout my 13 years in business.

My cup is full, and I can’t wait to bring all that I discovered back to our clients. 🤍

Le Sexe. Le Drugs. Le Rock n Roll.

A few scenes from last night at RNDD. It felt like hundreds of people came through, the room stayed packed all night, and somehow all the beautiful chaos we spent the week building became a party.

Very grateful to everyone who came, looked at the work, flipped through the books, stayed awhile, and made the night what it was.

Worth the hangover.

AFTER VENUS

I put this stack together specifically for this year’s RNDD theme, Le Sexe. Le Drugs. Le Rock n Roll.

Four books looking at the construction of desire, femininity, sexuality and the image of women from very different directions: Wingate Paine with words by Françoise Sagan and Federico Fellini, postwar Japanese photography, Helmut Newton, and the history of courtesans and women who lived outside respectable society.

Together, the books reveal how insistently every era attempts to invent woman, and what happens when she refuses to remain one thing.

After Venus will be available through @ckscollective this Friday at Prostoria during the River North Design District Gallery Walk, along with a selection of other Studio EmmJean curated books and stacks.

Handmade, sculptural, and quietly surreal.

The lamps of Martin Huxford blur the line between lighting and sculpture—each one shaped by hand, with raw texture, geometric forms, and an unmistakable sense of character.

For the collector who wants their light to be a little more interesting.

We had some fun! ➡️

We’ve got something cool going on next Friday at the River North Design District Gallery walk!

I’m teaming up with 3 Chicago creatives who happen to be great friends of mine to create a vignette celebrating the decadence of the 70s & 80s. Swipe to meet them!

Christina Karvelas Stavropoulos is the founder of CKS Collective, which brings a deliberate selection of lighting, furniture, and textiles from talent all over the globe to Chicago’s design landscape. She’s also my middle school bestie 🤗

Courtney Shoudis is an insanely talented visual artist and the founder of Studio EmmJean, a Chicago-based art and design studio Specializing in art placement, library curation, tablescapes, and interior consulting.

Katherine Ratay, another gifted artist whose work explores the language of emotion and memory through abstraction. She paints with movement—each gesture a response to the last, each layer a token of time, experience, and intuition.

It’s me. Cortney Hall, Creator & Executive producer of ‘Open House Chicago’ the area’s only real estate show highlighting unique, historic & luxurious homes in and around Chicago.

And took some pics

Here’s the real info … kinda
