Climber Rescued After 120-Foot Fall on Tom Dick and Harry Mountain On September 15, 2026, at approximately 2:47 p.m., Clackamas Fire was dispatched on a mutual-aid request from Hoodland Fire for a report of a climber who had fallen from a cliff on the second peak of Tom Dick and Harry Mountain near Government Camp in the Mt. Hood National Forest. The climber, who was reportedly filming a movie, fell approximately 120 feet and sustained significant, life-threatening injuries. Two civilians, including a physician, were able to hike down to the patient and provide lifesaving care. One of the civilians applied a tourniquet to each of the patient’s legs and helped prevent him from sliding farther down the cliff. Clackamas Fire’s Technical Rescue Team, along with Hoodland Fire’s Squad 351, worked to reach the patient through challenging terrain. Due to the severity of the patient’s injuries and the remote location, additional resources were requested, including the Oregon National Guard and Life Flight. Once rescuers reached the patient, crews stabilized him and continued providing medical treatment. The patient was packaged in a Stokes basket and hoisted from the cliffside into an Oregon Army National Guard HH-60M helicopter, accompanied by a Clackamas Fire paramedic. The patient was transported to a Level I trauma center for further treatment. Additional agencies and resources assisted with the operation, including Portland Mountain Rescue, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, Clackamas Search and Rescue, Life Flight, and Clackamas Fire’s Crew 30, which provided additional manpower to support the rescue. This rescue required a coordinated response involving multiple agencies, specialized rescue teams, medical personnel, and aviation resources. The immediate lifesaving care provided by the civilians at the patient’s side, combined with the coordinated response of emergency crews, was critical to providing timely care to the patient and giving him the best possible outcome.

@clackamascrew30 has been putting in hard work on the Grasshopper Fire, helping protect communities right here in Clackamas County and our neighboring counties. From the wilderness to the edge of homes, the crew is digging fire line, working alongside aviation resources, protecting structures and partnering closely with the Texas Canyon Hotshots to save homes. The Crew even used a homeowner’s tractor to quickly plow a fire line directly in front of the advancing fire. Crew 30 deploys across the country and Canada to help communities facing wildfires. Right now, they’re close to home, putting their experience to work protecting communities close to home.

This weekend was a tremendous success at Mount Scott Nature Park in Happy Valley, thanks to an incredible team effort from the Oregon Army National Guard, Clackamas Fire including Crew 30, National Charity League, Boys Team Charity, and dedicated resident volunteers. Together, we completed critical fire mitigation work across the 25-acre park removing invasive species, clearing dead trees, and restoring the forest floor to reduce wildfire risk. All material was chipped and cleared, and the trail is now open for everyone to safely enjoy. This effort is a powerful reminder that many hands truly do make light work. It’s also just the beginning, one of many projects ahead as we continue building a more resilient and safer Happy Valley. Thank you to everyone who showed up, worked hard, and made a real difference.
