Zoom is now available for the Historically Situating Mayan Scientific Knowledge event taking place October 16th and noon by Gerardo Aldana. Aldana’s talk is titled, “Sak Tahn Waax, Astronomy and Psychedelics in the History of Mayan Oracular Science.” Zoom is the third link in my bio. Event will be at the @latinxresearch and this talk series was made possible from @clacsberkeley. We’re offering a historical analysis to overcome mental paralysis.

Yesterday I spoke at @ucberkeleyofficial Center for Science 🧬 , Technology, Medicine 💊 and Society (CSTMS) reception about my research on Mayan mathematics, forming UC Berkeley’s first Central American 🇬🇹 🇸🇻 🇳🇮 research 🔬 group and through a grant I attained from the Center of Latin American and Caribbean Studies (CLACS) @clacsberkeley I will be launching a speaker series titled, “Historically Situating Mayan Scientific Knowledge.” I straddle two distinct intellectual worlds; one is grounded in Latin American and Mesoamerican studies, the other is Science, Technology Society (STS) studies which includes the history of math and the history of science. I’m working to build a bridge between Mesoamerican history with the history of math 🧮 through looking at the development of the Mayan calendars. I believe the product of such research can have a revolutionary effect in the K-12 schools; a reflection I developed after teaching in the high schools for over a decade. I will be posting about more events to come focused on these frameworks. I really appreciate the hundreds of people that have sent me supportive messages this last month. It was very inspirational for me to say the least. Te agredesco por el apoyo.
