My love letter to Dry Bones,

You taught me what it means to live, to love, and to be in community. Four years ago, I came on this trip with no idea how deeply it would impact me or change my life. I had no idea I would be here, devoting a whole summer to it. I fell in love with this place, the people, and who I became here. I knew I had found something special and a glimpse of who God is calling me to be. I felt the Lord’s presence here!!

For a summer, I didn’t just observe my friends’ lives, I was invited into them, making the experience both beautiful and difficult. I got to experience a life so different from my own, filled with both incredible joy and deep hardship. I laughed with my friends, cried with them, and sat in silence with them. I got to know them beyond their circumstances and see their beauty, strength, and humanity. I learned from each of them, and I’m a better person because they let me be a part of their lives. I was given the gift of being present. Of listening, showing up, and sharing in someone’s life, even if only for a summer. In doing so I realized one of the greatest gifts I can give someone is simply myself. My time, presence, and willingness to sit with them. Not fixing or trying to change them, but meeting them where they are at and loving first! Being in Denver didn’t just teach me many things, it let me experience a different way of living, loving, and seeing people!

Dry Bones you made me uncomfortable in the ways I needed to be, you taught me love is always worth showing up for, you taught me how to walk humbly and know my power, you taught me that I never want my comfort zone to be the limiting factor in someone’s eternity, you taught me we all belong to eachother, you taught me to love first, you gave me best friends who became pieces of my story, you gave me a deeper understanding of what it means to serve, you gave me a story I will keep telling through the way I love people!
You gave, and I received so much! For that I am forever grateful!!🤍

So so insanely grateful for these past 8 months!! It all started from just being invited to come to a woodlands tsm service and I can’t even begin to comprehend how much my life has changed since then. Having the opportunity to serve in my church on the worship team really showed me that there is so much more to church than just showing up for a service. It taught me a lot about surrendering to the Lord and that worship is not for us, but for Him. I’ll forever cherish all the Saturday rehearsals, Sunday mid-service debriefs, Wednesday rehearsals, and just being able to spend time with some of the most amazing people ever while serving our Lord!!

Just as I was invited to come to the student ministry at my church I was also invited to attend Impact Camp! I am so so glad I went! It’s hard to find the words to explain how life-changing this camp was. I met some of the sweetest people and had the best BG parents!! (shoutout Abri and Trip) If you’re an incoming Aggie next year you should 100% go you won’t regret it :)

Praise our amazing and gracious God for such an experience at this blessing of a retreat called Impact. Praise the Lord for revealing Himself in ways and depths I couldn’t have dreamed of. The Holy Spirit was truly moving in this camp! Thank you Jesus for your sacrifice so long ago, for your continued faithfulness since, and for your presence at this beautiful retreat.

Thank you Lord for your intentionality in placing Davis, Hayden, Hudson, Reid, Addison, Clara, Finley, Maddie, Maya, and Lindsay in my BG! How blessed I am to be able to serve and walk alongside these amazing people!

this past week spent in colorado taught me how to truly love. i reunited with old friends, saw the Lord’s beauty in so many new ways, learned what it felt like to be truly uncomfortable, and witnessed some of the most pure hearts. dry bones is a place where everyone knows they belong. a place where you can walk up to someone and learn their story, a place where when everything is falling apart only joy is found, a place where you can have the best dance parties, and a place that made me realize no matter what, everyone is created in the Lord’s image. wherever we are, we should welcome people knowing that they have unsurpassable worth. what it looks like to truly love is being different and stepping out of your comfort zones to listen to others.

How is it that after seeing the beauty of the mountains, the rain, the moose, the hidden lakes tucked along hiking trails, the hummingbirds that visited every so often, and the quiet, cold mornings I woke up to, I’m supposed to believe that I, with all my flaws, am God’s greatest creation? How could I be more beautiful than a green-topped mountain or a rushing stream? I found myself asking that question all week. Then I got to Dry Bones.

Dry Bones is a ministry in Colorado that walks alongside people experiencing houselessness, addiction, and hardship, not to “fix” them, but to build real relationships and remind them that they are deeply known and loved by God. The mountains showed me God’s creativity, but the city showed me His heart.

I saw beauty painted across walls in graffiti that told stories, beauty in simple games played with wooden blocks in an open field, beauty in conversations that turned strangers into friends, and, most of all, beauty in people the world so often overlooks. They welcomed me, laughed with me, prayed with me, and called me their friend. Somewhere in the middle of all that, my perspective changed.

God’s greatest creation isn’t about perfection but it’s His people. Every person carries His image, His purpose, and a story worth knowing. Dry Bones, thank you for opening my eyes to a different kind of beauty, the kind that isn’t found on mountaintops but in the hearts of people. Thank you for showing me why these bones live.
