At Connecting to Cure, supporting caregivers is a core part of our mission. 💚
Today, we’re honoring the moms who do everything and more—comforting through flares 🤒, translating medical speak 🩺, tracking symptoms like detectives 🕵️‍♀️, cooking (and more cooking) 🍲, and advocating in every room 💪
Special shoutout to our board member @jillbnord a mom of two boys with IBD. Running races and fundraising in support of our mission since circa 2015 when co-founder and Executive Director @stacyjdylan may have influenced her to run a half marathon. 🏃‍♀️💥 Now she won’t stop. 🛑

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms in the IBD community 💐including those living with IBD themselves, and those holding space for motherhood in all its forms.

And we know the care you give goes far beyond what anyone else sees. 💚

Dear Mom and Dad,

There are no words I can say to fully encapsulate how grateful I am for you, especially when it comes to being my caregivers. The severity of my Crohn’s progressed suddenly and rapidly, and you both never hesitated to find the first flight from Chicago to see me after I was admitted. Thank you for making the hospital couch into your bed for weeks, for going on endless walks around the unit at all hours of the day, comforting me through difficult procedures and symptoms, accompanying me at every doctor’s appointment, and so much more.

Even in the darkest and most terrifying moments, I knew things would be okay because I have both of you. I am forever lucky to have you there to navigate the realities of bag changes, complicated surgeries, confusing medical jargon, and advocating for me even at my weakest. Even with full-time jobs, you prioritized me and my needs, and for that I am forever thankful.

Your dedication to doing all you can to help me not just live, but thrive, with Crohn’s is something I am eternally fortunate for. Even in some of the lowest moments of hospitalization and recovery, you were both always there with me, making me laugh, watching my favorite tv shows and movies with me, and sharing lots of twin cherry gummies.

I love you both very much and could not be luckier to have you as my parents and caregivers.

💚 Love, Maya

On Caregiver Appreciation Day, we honor those who walk beside us every step of the way.

Today, we want to highlight Michelle G., a member of our Leadership Development Council, and the beautiful poem she wrote in appreciation of her brother. Her words remind us of the strength, love, and support caregivers offer to their loved ones with IBD. As Michelle so powerfully put it:

“You picked me up when I couldn’t stand,
Lifted me gently with strong, patient hands.
Through fevers and tremors, through aches I can’t name,
You held me together throughout all the pain.”

At Connecting to Cure, recognizing and supporting caregivers is at the heart of everything we do. Founded by two moms of children with IBD, we understand the vital role caregivers play in the lives of those with chronic illnesses, and we recognize the importance of having someone to help you navigate your diagnosis. We offer a caregiver support group, a safe place to connect with other caregivers. Our community is strong, and we are here for you!

Today, and every day, we honor caregivers who often go unrecognized yet show up for patients day in and day out. 💚

You can read Michelle’s full poem through the link in our bio.

I feel honored to work with a community of people who have given so much to support people affected by IBD. Our volunteers, employees, board members, and especially the parents, patients and families who live every day with the uncertainties of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Thank you for trusting us to do whatever we can to make it just a little bit easier. That is what I’m thankful for today. Our Team made this video unbeknownst to me. They told me the Thanksgiving post “was taken care of.”Made me 🥲 and 😀 and everything in between.

Repost from @connectingtocure
Wishing all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at CtoC!

In what is becoming a bit of a tradition, we’d like to take this opportunity to give thanks to our Executive Director and cofounder, Stacyjdylan (https://www.instagram.com/stacyjdylan/)

Stacy is our inspiration and motivation, the T to our P, and the gluten-free gravy that holds us all together. Her dedication to supporting those living with IBD has transformed the lives of countless patients and families.

Inspired by her son Lowell’s journey with Crohn’s disease, Stacy has built a community that provides support, education, and hope for people navigating similar challenges. Her leadership and passion continue to drive our mission to connect and support the IBD community, accelerate research, and amplify awareness of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

Thank you, Stacy, for your unwavering commitment and the impact you’ve made on so many. 🙏 💚
