Glaze with me #02 🖌️
Today I’m exploring 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐖 𝟐𝟎𝟓 by @maycocolors over 8 different glazes to see how the combinations interact.

On the inside I apply 2 (sometimes 3) layers of each glaze, because I want to see how the glazes build up and flow when they’re applied more heavily.

I only apply the main glaze that I'm exploring to the top half / top ⅔ of the inside, not all over. This gives me a chance to see how far the glaze moves down the surface during firing and if it creates drips.

On the outside I use just one layer of each glaze (less risky to run) to see how the combination behaves when applied "too thin".

🌊 Ocean Glaze Cup 🌊

For this piece I used four glazes by @maycocolors: Alabaster, Green Tea, Blue Surf & Northern Woods.

Tip 1: If you want more movement in a glaze combination like this, try not to apply the different colors in straight bands. Instead, layer them in loose, wavy brushstrokes so the glazers can overlap and flow into each other, creating a more natural transition.

✨ From test tile to finished piece ✨

In my previous post, I shared this glaze combo action on a test tile - and now here's how it looks on an actual piece.

I love seeing how a glaze combination really comes alive and interacts with a piece, when it's applied to a larger surface. What looks one way on a test tile can create a completely different feeling once it's on an actual form.

This piece features Black Walnut & Frosted Lemon by @maycocolors, fired to around 1220° C / Cone 6 on white stoneware.

This is part of my black and red series. It is made with a black clay and glazed with a deep red. I have added another glaze to create the flow at the bottom of the pot. This bowl is made with a black clay and the glaze is a dip red. I have added another glaze to create the flow at the bottom of the bow.
