We udderly adore our Clemson community! 💜

Our friends at @retirewellclemson recently toured LaMaster Dairy! Our students and staff had a moo-velous time showing the residents around the facility and introducing them to our herd. 🐮

10 days. 15 students. One unforgettable classroom in the wild. 🐘🌍

What happens when learning moves beyond the classroom and into the heart of South Africa? For @clemson.animals students, it meant early mornings tracking animals through the bush, afternoons collecting data and evenings reflecting under some of the clearest night skies in the world.

Each day students tracked and identified wildlife, explored anti-poaching strategies, gained insight from veterinary professionals and examined the balance between protecting wildlife and sustaining ecosystems. The culmination of the trip was a live rhino translocation, an unforgettable experience that brought conservation efforts to life.

A special thank you to Jim Strickland and Gustavo Lascano for their leadership and dedication to creating an experience that challenged, inspired and transformed our students.

“This program challenged me to think more deeply about the role humans play in wildlife conservation and strengthened my passion for wildlife medicine and conservation work in the future.” - @sarahannehorne

17 weeks between program selection and VMCAS submission!

Our admissions committee wants more than a list of what you’ve done. They want to understand what you learned, how you grew, and how your experiences shaped your path toward veterinary medicine.

Your work and volunteer experience tell a story. Make sure it reflects your compassion, resilience, adaptability, and passion for the profession.

What you learned matters just as much as what you did. 🐾

The Mankwe team extends a warm welcome to the veterinary science students from Clemson University.

What an honour to host the very first field trip for such a prestigious institution.

After a journey of nearly 36 hours, their energy and enthusiasm have been nothing short of inspiring.

Their first day was all about immersion in African wildlife. Walking up to giraffe and rhino, experiencing their presence up close, and learning to identify individuals through unique markings and ear notching was a powerful introduction to life in the field.

They also stepped into the world of ecological research, gaining hands-on experience as they deployed camera traps across the reserve.

Taylor Smith, DVM c/o 2030

With a full heart and overwhelming gratitude, I am blessed to share that I have been accepted into the inaugural DVM class at the Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine at Clemson University and Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine!!!

All of my hard work, determination, resilience, challenges, and accomplishments have molded me into who I am today and brought me one step closer to my dreams of becoming a veterinarian. It is such an incredible honor to help pave the way for future veterinarians in the inaugural class and make history for South Carolina!! This was all part of God’s plan for me and the calling I have to serve my community.

Clemson University has given me so much to be grateful for these last 4 years, and I am so thankful for every person in my life who has mentored, supported, encouraged, and believed in me along the way.

This is just the beginning!! Here’s to being a Clemson Tiger for 4 more years!!🐅

Over spring break, Dr. Strickland and his team took a group of Pre-Vet Animal Science students across the pond to Ireland to study animal agriculture! 🐄 🌾

From trekking through local farms to compare sustainability practices to exploring the history of the Gaelic language, this trip was a total deep dive into Irish culture and industry.

The group didn't just stay in the classroom—they traveled across four different cities to research how economic shifts shape the land, all while hitting bucket-list spots like the Cliffs of Moher and Galway! 🌊

Thinking of joining the next adventure? This program is open to all majors, with preference given to Animal and Veterinary Sciences (AVS) students. If you want a global perspective and an unforgettable experience, keep an eye out for the next application cycle! ✈️

For questions, reach out to ExL Coordinator Summer Chandler at spriddy@clemson.edu.
