Say hi to Nicky Burke, senior economics and marketing student! 👋

1. Can you tell us about your experience double-majoring in economics and marketing?

My majors have helped me explore the analytical and creative sides of my brain. I’ve learned how they unexpectedly overlap and reinforce my passion for market research and consumer behavior.

2. What's an extracurricular activity that’s had a significant impact on you?

As part of my involvement in the Thomas F. Chapman Leadership Scholars, our cohorts host an annual event called Christmas 4 Kids. We bring in students from local Title I schools to experience a real Christmas they wouldn’t otherwise have at home. This event has made me realize the blessings I have been given in life and how to be a servant leader in my local Clemson community.

3. What advice would you give to incoming students looking to make the most of their college experience?

Do it when you don’t feel ready. All of the experiences that have had the biggest impact on me at Clemson have been outside my comfort zone and when I’m a little scared. Whether you’re still undecided about your major or want to learn more about your intended major, these workshops are designed to give a preview of potential course sequences and to give pre-business students a chance to ask questions to a panel of upperclassmen from each major. Join us for as many sessions as you’d like–each major night counts towards a workshop/seminar credit!

What an incredible opportunity to be featured as Entrepreneur of the Week!

I’m so thankful to Clemson University for sharing my story and allowing Mely Bee Co. to reach students, future entrepreneurs, and members of the Clemson community that I may never have had the opportunity to connect with on my own.

This is so much more than a feature. It creates a bridge between my entrepreneurial journey, future clients, and the next generation of business owners.

If sharing my story can encourage even one student to believe that their idea, creativity, or unique journey can become something real, then it makes every step even more meaningful.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to connect, teach, inspire, and give back while continuing to grow alongside the Clemson community.

For our first #WhyWednesday, we’re exploring why the Robert H. Brooks Sports Science Institute was founded.

Through the generosity of Robert H. Brooks, the Institute was established in memory of his son, Mark Brooks, and three other members of a racing team. Today, the Institute advances its mission to enhance the sports sciences at Clemson through faculty research, student opportunities, and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Stay tuned throughout the summer as we answer more sports science questions and share stories from the Institute.

These incredible students will be studying abroad in the upcoming academic year through the U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program. This merit-based scholarship funds students to study or intern abroad, allowing them to build skill critical to our national security and economic prosperity.⁠
