Sampling the Goods!

Painkiller - Buried Secrets
CD
Earache Records/ Relativity
1992
Price: $12
Dm the Dirt Merchant account for purchases.

First edition here of a series where I'm going to give an in-depth listen and review of a peice of music from my coffers for you. Here goes nothing!

If you've ever wondered what if Ascension era Coltrane collaborated with Man is the Bastard/Bastard Noise would be like, this is probably pretty close. This sludgey experiment has an almost tribal rhythmic groove that permeates the whole thing, and with almost zero traditional melody, this is what gives it weight. It's a truly off-putting but enjoyable album that envelopes you in the atmosphere and then pulls you right out of it with jarring saxophone squeals that are chaotic but intentional. This album gives the feeling of running through a dank sewer from a crazed killer. Just when you start to get comfortable with the rhythmic grooves, you're attacked by an ear piercing blast, and that's the charm.

In conclusion, this is NOT for a casual listener. If you like free jazz and the slow parts in power violence this is for you. Whatever psychopath that is, I'm in that camp.

8/10 secret sewer bodies for this one.

This next tape come from long time contibutor @cliff.em.all82 who made a mixtape titled SWORDS AND SORCERY. Take the veil from your eyes to see the land beyond time. Step into a world where kings and queens ruled the land and the only way to the top is through brutality and bloodshed. This tape features some noteable bands, all whom have paid their dues in the ways of old. This tapes rules Cliff!

@cliff.em.all82 channelling his inner catastrophe for this next mix. he says he went with an all out metal theme and used art found in a uline catalog. Thinking outside the box, and looks insanely cool. Killer mix
