SQUAMISH (SKWXWÚ7MESH)

So I've been climbing since 2013, which makes this my 13th year since I got into all of this. For at least the past decade, if you asked me, I would have told you that Squamish was a bucket list climbing destination.

I finally got to go! And it completely blew my expectations out of the water. The moss, oh, the moss. It's everywhere. It's beautiful. Climbing on granite actually went quite well for a sandstone-trained guy like me. The banana slugs are huge and also beautiful. The ocean was beautiful. The mountains were beautiful. Ugh.

Somehow my expectations even got exceeded with how accessible and varied all the climbing is. It's insane how short some of the approaches are. Seriously. It's even amazing how a route like Dreamcatcher genuinely has such a short approach, a route that I've easily spent collectively over an hour watching the pros climb.

If I'm being fully honest, the @climbingmedicine symposium was the catalyst for the trip, and it was soooo worth it. I got to meet people (in-person!) like Katie and Jen in person, who are both PTs who have influenced me as a professional besides just being good friends. I've never had the chance to be in a room full of climbing rehab/medical providers before this but I loved it. The list of presenters was stacked with some of the most influential voices in the climbing rehab, medicine, and training world. Sounds like the next edition will be in 2029. I'll be there.

I really can't wait to get back. It'll be hard to beat this as the highlight of my summer. Thanks, Canada.
