POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Parents, coaches, and players—when you’re being recruited, don’t let the excitement of getting an offer keep you from asking the questions that really matter.

Here are three I believe are critical:

1. What is the value?

If you’re paying for some or all of the education, understand exactly what you’re receiving. Look beyond the basketball scholarship and understand the total financial picture.

2. What is the role and roster fit?

Ask the coach:
“Where do you see my athlete fitting into the roster you’re building?”

What do they need? Why are they recruiting your athlete? What role do they see them playing?

You don’t need to be promised a starting position. You need clarity and honesty about the opportunity.

3. Who is the coach?

This might be the most important question of all.

Go to campus.

Spend time with the coach.

Watch how they interact with their players and staff. Talk to people who know them. If possible, spend an entire weekend experiencing the program.

Because you’re entrusting this coach with more than your athlete’s basketball development.

You’re trusting them with someone you love.

Will they help your athlete grow mentally, physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually?

Will they care about them when basketball isn’t going well?

Will they keep them safe?

Will they help them become a better person?

Don’t choose a college based only on basketball. Choose a place where you can trust the people who will be shaping your athlete for the next four years.

Mistakes are inevitable.

One of the greatest coaches of all time, Dean Smith, kept it simple:

✅ Recognize it.
✅ Admit it.
✅ Learn from it.
✅ Forget it.

The best leaders don’t waste mistakes; they use them to get better.

We only won 7 games that season. But we won a championship.

Why?

Because all season, we prepared like we were building toward one.

We didn’t wait until we started winning to believe.

I led like we were capable of winning it.
Our leaders led like we were capable of winning it.
And our team prepared like we were capable of winning it.

A championship isn’t built when the tournament starts.

It’s built in the practices nobody remembers.

In the standards you hold.

In the habits you repeat.

In the belief you build when the record doesn’t look like what you hoped.

Don’t wait for a championship opportunity to start preparing like a championship team.

🏆 Are you building a championship all season?

🎯 Practice Tuesday

One of the greatest coaching adjustments I ever made was learning to ask more questions.

Instead of giving every answer, I started helping players discover them.

Here are three questions that can transform your practice:

✅ What did you see?
✅ What other options did you have?
✅ What will you do differently next time?

When players think, they learn.

When they own the lesson, they grow.

As coaches, we’re not just preparing athletes for the next game. We’re preparing them to make good decisions under pressure in basketball and in life.

6’3” G | Calvin McCrory | Class of 2027 | Valley Christian HS

One of the premier shooters in Arizona’s 2027 class, Calvin McCrory continues to establish himself as one of the most dangerous perimeter threats in the state. A proven winner at Valley Christian and with the PHX Runnin’ Rebels, Calvin brings elite shot making, confidence, and toughness every time he steps on the floor.
O
Calvin has deep range, a quick release, and the ability to stretch defenses at a high level. More importantly, he understands how to impact winning basketball. His feel for the game, composure, and competitive nature make him a player college coaches will continue to track closely over the next few years.

Calvin is also a high academic student who carries himself the right way on and off the floor. High character and a strong work ethic make him the type of player winning programs want in their culture.

College coaches — keep Calvin McCrory on your radar.

2027 6’7 WING/F Bryson Eldridge is the type of player every winning program needs on its roster. Tough, gritty, athletic, and completely team-first, Bryson impacts the game in every possible way.

He embraces physicality, competes on both ends, attacks 50/50 balls, sets hard screens, and consistently makes winning plays that don’t always show up in the box score. Offensively, he can score it when needed, while defensively he brings energy, toughness, and versatility.

Bryson’s motor, athleticism, and willingness to do the dirty work separate him from many players in his class. Add in the fact that he is a high academic student, and you have a player that coaches can trust both on and off the floor.

Programs looking for a tough, reliable two-way player who elevates team culture should keep Bryson Eldridge on their radar.
