Hey hey! If this Saturday wasn’t already going to be fun enough with live music and @au.beur’s delicious food we are doing a RAFFLE to benefit @beaconfoodforest. This gem of an organization works to bring nourishment and food/plant education to the community, so we along with over a DOZEN other food and beverage businesses want to show our thanks! We will be bundling with some of our products to create packages that offer a taste around the greater Seattle region 🫶🏽🫶🏽🤤

Visiting Seattle is always crazy busy for me. But there are some folks I must make time for. Tania and her husband Nino are one such couple. We have known each other for over 20 years and have watched our kids grow up.

This time, Tania (in stripes) and I met @cloudycafe in #Ballard with her daughters and my sis Mo.

Cloudy Cafe is owned by @dhimmelf, an alum of Canlis and Ethan Stowell’s restaurants, two Seattle greats. AND Dionne (wearing apron) is Indonesian!

I’m always thrilled when I come across Indonesian culinary representation, and Seattle really needs some! Over the years, traditional Indonesian restos have come and gone, including my family’s @julias_indonesian_kitchen (RIP). Sadly, they’ve all disappeared.

While not branded as such, Cloudy Cafe bears many hints of Dionne’s Indonesian culinary heritage. The biscuit and gravy is served with ayam goreng kuning, turmeric fried chicken. The pork belly slider is glazed with a smoky, sweet sauce, likely kecap manis? And the avocado toast is crowned with pickled shallots à la Balinese sambal matah.

We also brought home a bunch of pastries—pain au chocolat, chai scone, maitake mushroom danish—and they were all flaky, fresh and tasty.

I was so happy to meet Dionne and try her food. I will definitely be back :).

Contrary to its name, Cloudy Cafe is definitely a ray of sunshine on the Seattle dining scene!
