This gripping film clip sheds light on the often overlooked history of enslavement in Charlotte, North Carolina, revealing the realities of enslavement in Mecklenburg County.

Due to its current banking 🏦 and past gold mining ⛏️ history, the depths of enslavement is often an afterthought for those not steeped in the city’s past.

Through historical documents, oral histories, and immersive storytelling, the film uncovers the labor, resistance, and resilience of the enslaved people who shaped the city’s foundations. By confronting this past, viewers will have the opportunity to reckon with the lasting impact of enslavement on Charlotte’s landscape and collective memory.

Film title - TBD

Chef @chefjamielynch affinity for the restaurant business began when he was only 16 years old, working his first job as a dishwasher at a local bar and grill in a Massachusetts fishing town.
A New York native who spent many of his formative years in MA and FL, Lynch moved to NH after graduating high school and began working at a from-scratch Mexican restaurant learning the nuances of cooking.
While attending the @neciedu in Burlington, VT, Jamie completed an externship at Aqua in San Francisco under famed chef Michael Mina. Cooking at Mina’s four-star restaurant fueled his desire to train under the highest caliber of chefs possible. After graduating, Jamie returned to NYC where he was offered a prestigious position at Le Cirque 2000 in The Palace Hotel.

Then, the events of 9/11 brought him down South, forever changing his culinary style. Upon moving to Charlotte in 2002, Lynch worked at Ethan’s, a new American bistro, and met farmer Sammy Koenigsberg of @NewTownfarms “Seeing his produce, the chickens he was raising and the flavors he was cultivating from the earth just blew my mind,” Lynch recalls. “Before I knew it, I was spending all my days off there to help. My attention shifted to the product and how it got to the plate.”

Lynch’s relationship with Charlotte’s sustainable farming community and the local dining culture grew from there, and in 2012 he accomplished his dream of starting his own restaurant with the opening of Church and Union in the heart of Uptown Charlotte. Since opening Church and Union Charlotte in 2012, Jamie has garnered many accolades; Cheftestant on Season 14 and Season 17 All Star of Bravo’s @mbctopchef and voted BEST CHEF in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018, and 2020 in @charlottemag BOB (Best of the Best) Awards.

We are stoked to have Chef Jamie in the PCG Membership and cooking with us at Founders Feast November 8th. Tickets on our website. Jamie is offering his following a 30% promo code ChefLynchGuest while supply last.

Founders Feast is about remembering and honoring the chefs and farmers that helped build the farm-to-table movement in Charlotte. To help tell the story of Charlotte's restaurant landscape and culinary lineage, we have invited three awesome culinary community members to share their experiences and memories of a growing Charlotte.

Chef @marcjacksina , an OG farm-to- table chef best known for his restaurant LULU (currently at @fsfoodgroup Little Mama's ) to moderate a discussion with highly respected food writer and journalist for the @charlotteobserver and author @kathleenpurvis and revered Charlotte food critic and food journalists Helen Schwab.

During the plated portion of Founders Feast, this trio will take us down memory lane with their favorite stories of chefs, restaurants that have come and gone, and their favorite meals in Charlotte over the years.

Helen's identify is not widely known, and we've debated on whether or not to keep you identify a mystery... should we???

Chef @j40chef grew up in New England and attended @jwuprovidence in pursuit of his culinary interests. Fresh out of culinary school, he cut his teeth at Napa Valley Grill in Providence and then chased his chef dreams down to Florida, where he worked as a Sous Chef for @wolfgangpuck at The Dining Room.

His work eventually brought him to Charlotte after cooking in Chicago and Columbus, OH. Landing with @harpers_southpark (Harper's Restaurant Group), where he served in many positions, including Executive Chef at Zink, @mimosagrill and Upstream.

Chef Jon won Fire in the City in 2013 and 2014 and the NC State Competition Dining Series in 2014.

Chef Jon and his wife @southernkumpfortes operate The Flipside Restaurant Group which includes @theflipsidecafe @flipoutburger @salmerisitk and @flipsidecatering .
