Going back to school at 30+ feels like a risk most people won’t take.
But for CAA school, your timing might actually be the thing working in your favor.
Pre-AAs come from all walks of life! 🤗

The discipline, the clinical pattern recognition, the reasons for being there…that’s exactly what gets you through the hard semesters.

Save this if you’re wrestling with the decision and send it to a friend who’s still on the fence.

What’s the one thing holding you back from applying? Drop it in the comments.

I’ve been able to experience more of the USA by taking different anesthesiologist assistant travel/contractor assignments. In the past two years I’ve been able to explore the southwest and southeast and have loved it!

Here are some of my favorite takeaways:

I’ve met and worked with more anesthesia providers through working in different hospital systems. I’ve learned from my colleagues’ experiences and I believe it’s made me a more well rounded provider.

My day to day experiences have also diversified. I have cared for pediatric patients, which was rare in my former staff position, and have provided anesthesia care in surgeries that were not provided at my former staff position.

As a contractor, I have also been able to take more time off (12+ weeks per year), in which I have gone camping in the southwest and Pacific Northwest, skiing, hiking, as well as traveled internationally. This time off is unpaid, but it has been offset by a higher hourly rate.

I love that I’ve taken on the experience of being a traveling anesthesia provider at the start of my career. I do not plan on doing this forever, but it’s been invaluable to take on new experiences that I can always reflect on throughout my career. Experiencing new areas and work environments has also helped me with thinking about where I’d like to live long term.
