Supporting someone who may be struggling with thoughts of suicide can feel overwhelming. You may worry about saying the wrong thing or not knowing what to do.

You don’t have to solve everything.

Being present, listening and helping someone connect with appropriate support can create an opportunity for connection and care.

And remember: suicide prevention is a collaborative effort. It is not up to any one person to prevent a suicide.

Suicide can affect campus communities from all backgrounds. During Suicide Awareness Month, we’re reminded of the importance of connection, compassion and reaching out for support.

Whether you’re going through a difficult time yourself or checking in on someone you care about, you don’t need to have all the answers. Simply starting a conversation is an important first step.

September is Suicide Awareness Month — a time to recognize the importance of creating communities where people feel safe reaching out, talking openly and asking for support.

For students, post-secondary life can come with a lot of change, pressure and uncertainty. Checking in with someone you care about can be a simple way to let them know they’re not alone.

You don’t need to know exactly what to say or have all the answers. Being present, listening and connecting someone to support can make a difference.

Let’s make space for more conversations about suicide — not just this month, but throughout the year.

Today my mum and I participated in the @cspyyc #runforlife2026. The morning started off with a 1km memorial walk, followed by a 5km walk/run (or roll in my case). I helped design & make shirts for myself and my mum, memorializing Keira.

It was meaningful watching everyone come together to remember, reflect and support one another. During the week leading up to the event, people also had the opportunity to participate virtually through whatever form of movement felt good to them.

Are you interested in joining next year? Comment or DM me and we can form a team!

Today I walked my first 5K. 💛

I’m proud to have walked alongside my team in support of suicide prevention.

Working in social services for the past several years has given me the privilege of working alongside people facing developmental disabilities, mental health challenges, addiction, and so many battles that aren’t always visible from the outside. It has also reminded me just how important it is to have conversations about mental health - including conversations on men’s mental health.

But this cause is also personal.

I’ve had my own moments where I genuinely felt like there was no other option. I’ve sat through hours-long waits in the ER, tried different medications, struggled through moments when I didn’t know what to do next, and experienced firsthand how difficult it can be to ask for help and navigate the mental health system.

Those experiences have reminded me that mental health struggles don’t discriminate — and neither should our willingness to talk about them.

Men also deserve to have a safe space to talk. To struggle. To ask for help. To not feel like they have to be strong all the time or carry everything on their own.

Talking about men’s mental health matters. Breaking the stigma matters. Checking in on your people matters. YOU matter.

So today’s 5K was about more than walking. It was about showing up for something that has touched my life personally and professionally, starting conversations, remembering those we’ve lost, and supporting those who are still fighting.

Check on your people. Ask twice. Listen without judgment. 🫶🏼

First 5K ✔️
For a cause that matters. 💛

🧡 Sitting at the Annual Bridge of Life Suicide Prevention Awareness Vigil and Walk on September 10, surrounded by music, poetry, and shared stories, I was reminded of something vital.

For years, my mental health battles have felt overwhelming, casting a heavy shadow over my day-to-day life. But in that safe, sacred space to mourn and connect, I felt deeply seen. I was reminded of the fierce battles I’ve fought through and continue to navigate every single day; how finally speaking up about my struggles is what ultimately saved my life.

That is a huge part of why starting Evolve was so vital to me and my own mental health. It has helped me speak up about my own struggles, shine a light on the supports available, and connect with others who truly get it. Showing up with my business isn’t about making money, it’s about spreading a message through apparel that you can wear as a daily reminder to yourself and everyone around you that mental health matters and needs to be talked about.

Prevention is so much bigger than any one person, post, or day. It’s about building the support, connection, and systems people need long before a crisis happens. People don’t always look like they’re struggling, and asking for help can be incredibly hard. That’s why community matters so deeply; when we come together, we are stronger and able to make a greater impact.

When I is replaced with We, illness becomes wellness 💛
