CMHA Central Alberta has been providing assistance, education and support to people in our area since 1964.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Today I’m grateful — and a little amazed. A year ago I was worried about colleagues, students, and my own weary body. I had questions, doubts, and a tiny, persistent idea: what if I built a place for real people to learn, share, and heal?

I took the leap. I incorporated Authentic Self-Compassion, reached out, and watched strangers become champions. Authors and speakers said yes. Non-profits joined hands. Our podcast guests and our members opened their hearts. We launched with hope, humility, and purpose.

Now? Our community is 68 members strong. We’ve hosted authors, held webinars, and partnered with incredible organizations like the @centralabcac, @cmhacentralalberta and @dfscentralalberta! This work matters because connection matters. Self-compassion matters.

If you’re seeking practical tools, honest stories, and a gentle place to land — come meet us. We are here for you!

🌳 Behind the Scenes — Page 20 of The Dancing Tree
This is a really important page in August’s journey.
By this point, August has discovered something powerful: healing isn’t always something we have to find outside of ourselves. Sometimes, we can begin by simply moving.
August begins to understand that getting up, moving their body, dancing, and allowing themselves to feel can create a shift inside. Movement can help us release tension, change our energy, regulate our nervous system, and make space for emotions that have been sitting inside us.
And that’s one of the messages I really wanted young readers—and honestly, all of us—to take from this story:
You don’t always have to have the right words. Sometimes, you just need to move.
Dance. Walk. Stretch. Shake it out. Breathe. Move your body in whatever way feels right for you.
Healing can begin with something as simple as getting up and moving toward yourself again. 🌿
And perhaps that is what August is finally discovering…
Their Dancing Tree was within them all along.
💭 Have you ever noticed how moving your body can change the way you feel?

🌳 Behind the Page
This is a pivotal moment in August’s journey.
August begins to move.
Not because someone tells them how to heal.
Not because the sadness suddenly disappears.
But because, little by little, they discover that movement changes something inside them.
Like a tree moving with the wind, August begins to sway, stretch, turn, and dance.
And something unexpected happens.
For those moments, the sadness feels lighter.
The grief doesn’t have quite the same grip.
The loss is still part of their story—but August has found a way to move through the feeling instead of becoming stuck inside it.
And so they dance again.
And again.
And again.
Healing doesn’t happen all at once.
Sometimes it happens through watching, feeling, trying, remembering, and discovering what makes us feel a little more like ourselves.
For August, it was dancing.
The movement became a language when words weren’t enough.
And eventually, August realized something incredibly important:
“I can create a good feeling inside myself.”
That is the beginning of self-healing.
Not perfection.
Not forgetting.
Not pretending the hurt never happened.
Just finding something that brings a little light back in—and choosing to return to it.
🌳 What makes you feel more like YOU?
