Paramedic Christian Bahr-Lopez testifying at City Council Hearing.

The City increased the price of ambulance rides by about 29–31% for transports and increased treatment without transport billing by up to 42%, while EMS workers are still fighting for wage and benefit parity.

The FDNY raised the cost of all ambulance bills on July 1st. Billing for ‘treatment in place’ (also some RMAs) will begin on Jan 1st, 2027.

From an EMS labor perspective, the issue being raised is that the City increased the revenue stream associated with EMS while negotiations over EMS compensation and parity remain unresolved. The argument from EMS advocates is that increased EMS-generated revenue should translate into investment in the workforce: recruitment, retention, staffing, and competitive wages.

FDNY EMS did not get much in the FY2027 city council budget. Whatever increase in total expenditure, 16% to 17% of $2.67 billion, is to be offset by the public by raising fees, and an increase in the non-EMS part of the budget by $44 million. They are doubling BHEARD size to 84. The capital budget over the next 5 years will rebuild stations 7, 17, and 58. Local 2507 will go back bargaining in July. The last known offer was 16.1% (civilian pattern bargaining).

"Parity" is understood to be a 47% raise, or an FDNY EMT reaching 109K after 5.5 years, with a paramedic with higher levels of training making more. With a 20 and out pension and all other benefits and fringe being equalised to those of firefighters. Parity can cost $83 million to $310 million on top of FDNY EMS existing operating costs. Depends on whether you're talking about wages, matching the benefits, and/or matching the fringe. Obviously, FDNY EMS Parity is anathema to the UFA. But it is the UFA who must come to embrace parity as being as important for the future of firefighters' jobs as it is for New Yorkers to get timely and appropriate emergency care.

After years of hearing from Waterside Plaza, StuyTown, and Peter Cooper Village residents about seaplane noise and safety, we brought their concerns to City Hall.

This week, I chaired a joint oversight hearing with @cmshaunabreu examining seaplane safety, party boat regulations, and the future of NYC Ferry.

After hearing testimony, I'm introducing a resolution calling for the suspension of flights at the East 23rd Street Skyport until the FAA and NTSB complete a comprehensive safety review.

Today was an emotional but progressive date for myself, Niyell’s mom @familiesforsafestreets @transportationalternatives @sen_gounardes @emilyassembly @cmrestler @lincolnforcouncil @bfurnas as we gathered together for a rally in #cityhall this morning in support of Council Member Santosuosso @councilmemberkayla and other elected officials who continues to push and ensure that STOP SUPER SPEEDERS BILL moves forward and the city council begins implementing our bill as quickly as possible. Last session we made tremendous progress as the bill passed within the New York State legislation.

Two days from today 10/24 is one of the WORST DAYS OF MY LIFE🤦🏾‍♂️❤️‍🩹😢 it’s the date my daughter Niyell L. McCrorey was struck by a “super speeding driver” and sadly deceased 7 days later on 11/1 which was approximately 17 days away from which would’ve been her 14th birthday💔🤦🏾‍♂️

This season never is easy for the family and Niyell’s parents as we continue on this never-ending grief journey. Please keep us in prayer 🤲🏾🤲🏻 as I continue to walk within my purpose TURNING OAIN IN2 POWER & PUPOSE‼️

MAY OCTOBER BE GOOD TO US🙏🏾🙏🏻

IM OUT HERE STRIVING YALL‼️💪🏾💪🏾 🗽 🌎

The @NYCCouncil is making our streets safer for all New Yorkers.

That’s why we’re looking to introduce new technology that can identify which e-bikes and e-scooters are illegal.

We don’t just need stronger enforcement, we need smarter enforcement.

We need stronger, smarter enforcement on e-bikes and e-scooters.

Here’s one way:

One of the simplest ways to save lives on our streets is to lower speed limits to 20 mph.

Now, Comptroller Mark Levine, City Council Transportation Chair Shaun Abreu, and Borough Presidents Brad Hoylman-Sigal, Antonio Reynoso, and Donovan Richards are calling on the Mamdani administration to implement Sammy’s Law across all 17 community districts whose community boards have already passed resolutions supporting neighborhood-wide 20 mph speed limits.

While NYC has had the authority to lower speed limits under Sammy’s Law, just 2% of eligible streets have received 20 mph limits. The community support is there. Now it's time for DOT and the Mamdani administration to deliver safer speeds across all our neighborhoods.

Attention parents!

Thanks to @govkathyhochul and @nycmayor’s leadership, New York City is now bringing 2K to every school district in the Bronx and Staten Island.

It’s an important step toward the goal of universal childcare and ensuring that NYC families get the support they need.

The @NYCCouncil has made this issue a top priority, and we’ll continue our work to support 2K and 3K expansion for families in every borough.

Great to join @gowanuscanalconservancy and welcome Majority Leader Abreu to Gowanus and share a central lesson from the neighborhood’s rezoning: housing growth must be matched by real investments in resilient infrastructure that protects our communities and waterways.
