POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

i seem to have a boatload of photos to post but first things first:

#happybirthday to @cmyung, my firstborn, who happened to be born right before mother's day that year. perfect timing! 😬

we had a combined birthday/mother's day family phone call along with the screenshot that goes along with every such call 📸 the birthday girl is blowing out the candles on the cake she baked and decorated 🎂 her sister @amandakyung is holding up a birthday banner 🎉🎉

what's a trip without a souvenir dangly or two to remind me of the experience?

not many this time: a bike safety charm my daughter got for me during a recent trip to japan, a purple hugging plushie from @naisnow.us, a cute handmade keychain by @janiceechang at @artbeancoffee, and a @bt21_official cooky i❤️ny plushie from @linefriends_us

which reminds me of my solo coffee/tea expeditions.
- a mango green tea at @cocobubbletea.eastcoast #chinatown
- an iced americano at @sogood.nyc #greenwichvillage (with their housemade english muffin with lox and capers plus more muffins to go!)
- an oolong milk tea at @imilky.usa chinatown
- an iced yuen yeung black tea/coffee/condensed milk at @artbeancoffee

it's a new year... and a new us! 🤣🤣

we did our usual family group call earlier today, took the usual screenshot and shared it on the group chat. next thing i knew, family members were sharing AI versions of us as NYE revelers! 🥳🥳 one version looks pretty close (including me offering a champagne toast while still in my pjs), but the other had us scratching our heads because no one in the photo resembles any of us 🤔🤔

i can't wait to see what the next version will be, although i hope i end up wearing something more suited to the occasion than my pajamas! 😱😱

for the santos-yung sistahs, december means:

@tinsangui's birthday is on the 1st
@suzysan08's birthday is on the 16th
@ayogist's (aka moi) birthday is on the 22nd
and christmas is on the 25th

it took @amandakyung's wedding to get us physically in one place two years ago, given how we all live in different states (and countries, too)! but thanks to the miracle of mobile tech, we manage to gather virtually... although because we are all equally busy in different time zones, it sometimes takes some effort to get all of us on the same call 🤨🤨

maybe it's a good thing we're a small family, otherwise it'd be next to impossible! thanks to @cmyung for the screenshot photos! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

#familyholiday #foodfeasting, continued!

today's adventure was #korean #ayce #kbbq at @sokoreanbbq #centreville followed with #mango #strawberry #bingsoo #shavedice from @shillabakery #chantilly to make sure our bellies had absolutely no more room left for anything else until #newyearseve! 🤣🤣🤣

i passed on the bingsoo and had a milk tea with espresso instead because all that food was making me drowwwwssssyyy... 😴😴😴

for as many #blackfridays as i can remember, i'm usually back at home in #LA, likely doing a hike -- urban or trail -- with friends. no #shoppingmalls, no #onlineshopping, just time spent enjoying the #greatoutdoors (and burning off calories from the prior day's feast) ☀️🚶🏻‍♀️🚶🏻‍♂️🌳🌊

this year, i spent the #thanksgiving holiday with family in #seattle, and while my hope was to spend it outdoors, the #rain narrowed our options to mainly indoor activities ☔️☔️

walking around the @seattleaquarium was both fun and educational (plus treating ourselves to @pikeplacechowder at @pikeplacepublicmarket afterwards was the perfect way to warm back up after all the time in and out of water!)

once again, instead of dealing with cash register lines and amazonian pursuits, it was another @rei #optoutside day for me!

if we're lucky, my daughters and i find ourselves in the same city at the same time once a year. maybe twice, if we're VERY lucky. after all, we live at opposite end of the country; i'm in #LA, one daughter is on the east coast, the other is in #seattle, where we happen to be celebrating the #thanksgiving holiday.

all three of us are foodies, so the first decision of the day is: where do you want to eat? 😋😋😋

today's breakfast destination was @hello.em_coffee in #littlesaigon, a place none of us had ever been. and as per usual, we ended up ordering different items to get a nice sampling of their menu.

my apologies, though, for this haphazard post - i was so eager to eat what i'd ordered that i never got around to tasting what they'd gotten 🙁 i had the typical #vietnameseicedcoffee and a small #pressed #bahnmi with #chickenpate and #vietmayo (a good size to go with coffee, it would've been too small for lunch).

seen on the table with my food are a #vietcoffee topped with #eggcream, another topped with an #eggcloud, and a breakfast @croissant with egg, chicken pate, and viet mayo. not seen are the items my daughter's fiance ordered; he's a relatively private person (at least compared to us), so i'm trying to protect him from my #socialmedia posts. i'm sure he'll slip in somehow, but at least i'm trying! 🤣🤣

#helloemvietcoffee has plenty of table space to sit and chat with friends, get some work done, or relax and hide away from the world outside.

by the way, i loved what i had ordered, especially since i haven't come across anything of the sort back home. maybe i should make it my next mission? 😉😉

my family's #cuban thanksgiving meal was fairly unusual; not only wasn't it the traditional bird with stuffing, gravy, cranberries, etc., but it wasn't even homecooked nor of our family's heritage 🤣🤣

so when my daughter went searching for a #blackfriday lunch stop and found the turkey works in sandwich form at @valhallasandwiches in #greenwood, she said let's go, and so we did! 😬

atoning for my "how did i eat all that meat yesterday?" sins, i went for their #vegetarian #buddhacall sandwich: #sauteedspinach, roasted #sweetpotato, #creminimushrooms, roasted #redpeppers, #provolone, and #garlictahini on a #teleraroll. it checked all my boxes: veggies, cheese, and garlic. did i mention cheese? 🧀🧀and garlic? 🧄🧄 may i have some more, please?

the #titanic at @carminesnyc #washingtondc is a truly insta-worthy #dessert!

@cmyung is focused on our half order of:
"Vanilla & Chocolate Ice Cream Over Our Chocolate Torte, Piled High w/ Whipped Cream, Bananas, Strawberries, Candied Pineapple, Hazelnuts, Hot Fudge & Cookie Smokestacks"

five adults. all gone. no problem! 😋😋😋😋😋
