#ThrowbackThursday in our old space in Middle Village. A lot of memories were made in that smaller space. Many of the guys in the video either graduated college or are entering their last fall camp in college. Wishing them well wishes either way. Because of their commitment to academic and athletic success we were able to continue and help even more student-athletes. Sometimes it’s hard for people to realize how far we’ve come because the truth is, a lot of our best student athletes didn’t get the biggest offers or play at the highest levels, but they worked with the best, to be the best version of themselves, them and that made them high caliber citizens on-campus and off-campus.

Quick HS/College Prep AM Group highlight.

As fall athletes prepare for season within the coming weeks, more skill work for the sport is being implemented to maximize playmaking abilities. While the base foundation remains, we slightly tailor the stimulus and the variations to meet the demand of the athlete position and sport altogether as we inch closer to the time in which they will showcase the ability.

Reduce the volume, increase the bar velocity, keep strength training and pair the concept of force production in the weight-room to relative movement patterns from the field or court.

Exercises Shown-

Speed Squat 4 x 3+3 Clusters + Max Height Vertical Jump x3
Move the bar fast. Let your body fly.

Reverse Squats (for hip flexor strengthening).
Before we push the ground away, we must rapidly flex into in “dip the hip”

Unorthodox Chin-Ups from @roguefitness
Get a grip, grapple sport athletes.

HS incoming freshmen group- AU Bridge Up program.

Here is a small snippet of a simultaneous group set completing tempo reps at 1-1-x from coach’s cadence on the Zercher squat and DB push-ups.

Zercher squats are a Strongman(sport) style of lifting where the bar is placed in a front loaded position in the elbow crease. This variation challenges trunk stability similar to the standard barbell front squat, while also forcing a little more lat and upper arm engagement, and this to stay upright— naturally guides the hips to lower into the mid-foot for balance and depth with an upright torso. This is a solid variation to implement for football and grapple sport athletes.

The DB push-up is not special, however, it does allow athletes to feel obligated to hit depth with the slight hand elevation within the dumbbell arms. Also, the neutral grip at shoulder width allows for a more relevant of a cue for some athletes to imagine the lock out motion to that of a wide-receiver or linemen on a block or another athlete that needs to shoot their hands within this tricep dominant position/variation.

As we approach the end of week 1 of our summer Bridge-Up program— here are some highlights of some of the academic, athletic, and community activities going on from the last couple of days.

The youth were introduced to the environment firstly by creating a goal for different aspects of their life short-term and long-term as students, athletes, and community members altogether.

They also learned how to appropriately go through a dynamic warm-up and prepare their bodies to engage in a progressional training regimen.

While executing the base progression and variations of exercises within the 7 foundational movement patterns, they are also learning some of the anatomical terminology for several muscle groups that they use during physical activity and sport.

Last, but not least— fun in the sun. In a nearby public park, our coaches and summer interns led a few great games to bond over in sports that were new to some— kickball and ultimate frisbee. It was a great time, while also teaching about hydration in the hot weather when playing outside. There were a lot of laughs and pats on the back and relationship building to conclude each day.

We look forward to week 2! Stay tuned for more highlights.
