WEEK 4/DAY 11
.
This final week before break I increased the sets and reps to increase their total volume of work. We did sets of 5 with reps between 6-8 for all compound lifts.

This season I have incorporated traditional deadlifts in our program and will continue to utilize trap bar deads. We started the week with Bigs and Big Skill (LB's only) training traditional deads and Big Skill/Skill training with trap bar deads. On Wednesday we flipped it.

We continued with all our accessories (neck, trunk work, arms, etc.) and ended the week well!

PALO ALTO FOOTBALL
.
PHASE: IN-SEASON: WEEK 3
.
HEADING INTO THE SEASON, I TAKE INTO ACCOUNT STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE/QUALITY OF OPPONENT AND OPPORTUNITIES WHERE I COULD DIAL BACK EVEN MORE OF THE INTENSITY (ALTHOUGH ALREADY IN-SEASON) TO LESSEN OVER USE ON THE ATHLETES JOINTS AND MAJOR MUSCLES.

THIS WAS THE PERFECT WEEK TO DIAL BACK A BIT MORE AND "DELOAD" THE ATHLETES BODY.

AS AN EXAMPLE, ON OUR LOWER BODY EMPHASIS DAY I TOOK OUT A TRADITIONAL BACK SQUAT, WHICH LOADS THE SPINE, AND SUBSTITUTED A ZURCHER SQUAT STEP-UP WHICH KEEPS THE LOAD PRIMARILY IN THE HIPS (TO GIVE THE SPINE A BREAK). @dylan.horne_2
ON OUR UPPER BODY EMPHASIS DAY, I ALSO USED A BARBELL FLOOR PRESS (WITH A 3 SECOND PAUSE AT THE BOTTOM/ARMS ON FLOOR) TAKING OUT THE ECCENTRIC PORTION OF THE LIFT AND EMPHASIZING THE CONCENTRIC PORTION ONLY, TO HELP MINIMIZE MORE MUSCLE DAMAGE AND STRESS/OVER USE TO THE PECS/CHEST. WE DID THIS AS OPPOSED TO A TRADITIONAL BENCH PRESS.

LOOK AT YOUR STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE PRE-SEASON AND TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR OPPORTUNITIES. YOUR ATHLETES WILL APPRECIATE YOU FOR IT!

PALO ALTO FOOTBALL
.
PHASE: IN-SEASON: WEEK 1
.
HEADING INTO THE SECOND GAME OF THE SEASON, I TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THAT THE STARTERS FEEL BANGED UP AND STILL ARE GETTING INTO "FOOTBALL SHAPE" (CONTACT WISE). WE STILL WANT TO TOUCH ON QUALITIES OF MOBILITY, STRENGTH, AND POWER (SPEED STRENGTH) FOR IDEAL ATHLETIC PERFORMANCE COME FRIDAY NIGHT.
.
KEEP TOTAL VOLUME LOW AND MICRO-DOSE OLYMPIC LIFTS AND, OR HIGH VELOCITY/DYNAMIC BASED EXERCISES ALONG WITH SUB-MAX STRENGTH EXERCISES THROUGHOUT THE WEEK.
.
ALSO REMEMBER, ACCESSORY EXERCISES WILL STILL HAVE A PLACE IN-SEASON.
