My story… An overview 🫶🏻
This is a bit vulnerable, but my ”why” will always come back to my story.

My birth parents were young teenagers who were starting to get deeply involved in crime, drugs, and much more when I came into the picture. Up until the age of four I spent most of my young years, starved, neglected, beaten, and bounced around. I slept on floors, couches, and under bridges. Sadly, all of my extended family were also involved in the same vices.

Right before my 5th birthday, I was forcefully taken into foster care. My foster parents were amazing but I was a young girl - so scared and confused.

I was then adopted when I was 8yrs old, and I thought that that would be the my happy ending. Unfortunately, I was adopted by individuals who were not meant to be parents. Six months into my adoption, I started to get emotionally and physically abused.

After coming forth to the police about what I was experiencing at home - the 90 day investigation was deemed inconclusive. At this time, I was 11 years old and I started to get into running. I would run anywhere to get out of the house. Living in the same home as my abusers was so hard. The physical abuse stopped – but the emotional abuse only got worse.

Starting in 6th grade, I joined school sports and a gym rat athlete was born. That year my birth father overdosed and died. I started running every race in his name and I used sports to dissociate from all the pain.

In high school I worked with my guidance counselors to make a plan for me to graduate early. I used my merits to secure a full ride Air Force scholarship. A month into my college freshman year, I found out that my birth mother was murdered. I was planning to visit her in two weeks.

I ended up dropping my scholarship and the program, and I begin working full-time while attending school online. I have since graduated and now have a loving chosen family. I love my work, my life, and now this sport.

You don’t need to be perfect, ready, supported, or anything to do what you want to do. I promise if I can push through the hard days you can too. As long as you can balance grit and grace - anyone is unstoppable.
