So much love for 2024

Rockstar update! Am currently soaking in the view at the Tuscarora overlook at Douthat — one of the most beautiful views in the world in my opinion! Day 1 was big mileage and lots of climbing but all very fun and enjoyable. Joe White and Ben and Lynn Faust joined me for the Wolf descent and their company gave me a big energy boost — thanks guys! All the Stokesville trails are super fun (yes, even climbing Lookout wasn’t so bad) and I camped up at Confederate Breastworks. Day 2 was primarily occupied by the Shenandoah Mtn Trail. In years past I’ve gotten pretty frustrated on its never-ending undulations so the goal this year was to be positive and enjoy it. Mission accomplished! A nice spin along paved and gravel roads loosened the legs up, and the controlled burn bypass of Little Mare was a treat; we went up Brushy instead. Although super steep and technical in places, and requiring a decent bit of hike a bike, it was fun to be on a new trail and get up to Trappers Lodge in what felt like a more efficient manner. I rolled into Douthat around 10:30/11 last night and stealth camped in one of the horse stables — win! This morning I took care of some bike maintenance. My rear brake pads were roasted! Today I’ll keep up the general trend of pedaling into the evening hours, then stealth camping. After 3 times of vowing to never again ride Price Mtn or Dragonsback on a loaded bike, this year I’m finally giving myself permission to bypass both of those very difficult hike-a-bikes and instead enjoy *riding* my bike on the gravel route as a bypass; otherwise I’m staying true to the trail route.
