This is how Summer ends! ☀️✨🧋

The last Sunday of any month is Cocoa day, and this month’s meeting was incredibly fun as we got to chat and discuss Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman

Alas, no midnight margaritas but plenty of iced coffee and biscuits. We couldn’t think of a better way to close out our summer sessions. We look forward to entering our Autumnal season with Victorian Psycho.

If you’d like to attend a cocoa bookclub meeting, visit @redlionbooks, DM The Cocoa Bookclub @cocoabookclub or email us@redlionbooks.co.uk for more information

It's the last week of Essex Book Festival! There's still plenty of brilliant events on before we finish for another year... but be quick!

Thank you so much @redlionbooks @cocoabookclub - I had so much fun talking about the rise of romance, and all things SPICE! I loved meeting @authorriaaliceandjessicamay and @ Unembarassable. And I’m so so thrilled that my novel Limelight was the @cocoabookclub choice for April - I feel so lucky to have such sensitive, thoughtful readers. 💖📚

as the big day draws nearer, and people turn to the ever stretching reaches of Amazon, it’s so important to remember to shop local if, and when you can. so, what a delight it was to stumble upon a beautiful independent bookshop during a recent Christmas shopping trip to Colchester in Essex🎄🏰📚

@redlionbooks is a gorgeous and cozy bookshop nestled right in the heart of Colchester’s historic high street. i can’t say how happy i was to find an indie bookshop - of which there are not many in Essex. established almost 50 years ago, it may look small from the outside, but it is an Aladdin’s cave of treasure within - spread over two floors and absolutely cramp-packed with everything you could hope to find.

the staff were so friendly and helpful, and let me know of all the various events that the shop holds, including the numerous book clubs, author signings and even a crochet club! the dedicated sections to LGBTQ+ books and new, independent exclusives are worth going for alone! 🏳️‍🌈

the shop has such a calm and homely feel, with lovely, decent folk doing what they love at work - i could have stayed there for hours and hours, browsing and chatting. it’s independent bookshops like this, that really are worth making the journey for - and now I know it’s there, i cannot wait to make a return visit!

and of course, i know Christmas is almost here, but how could i not make a purchase. the @cocoabookclub, which is held there monthly, have been fortunate enough to collaborate with @newadultprize, being granted early release paperbacks of their inaugural winner, ‘Disappoint Me’ by @nicoladinan, for their next book club. so yep, of course it was coming home with me. what a fabulous surprise!🥰📕💚

please make sure to give @redlionbooks and @cocoabookclub a follow, they are such a valuable cornerstone of the local community, it’s immediately clear how loved they are by their customers, which in today’s world, is truly a joy to see. i can’t wait to return when I next find myself their way 🚗📗🥹

🩸☠️ BOOK VS FILM: BONES AND ALL ☠️🩸

This Halloween, we’re teaming up with @cocoabookclub for a special crossover event - a book vs film discussion of Bones and All.

Whether you’ve read Camille DeAngelis’ haunting novel, watched Luca Guadagnino’s visceral adaptation starring Timothée Chalamet and Taylor Russell, or are simply curious - come along to connect, compare and celebrate horror storytelling in all its forms.
