when everyone can generate anything with a prompt, how do you stand out?

most app promo videos I see are indistinguishable from each other (because they were likely made w/the same basic prompt)

the only way to stand out is to care and to put actual effort into what you make. been true. still true

the strongest proof of this is that the AI companies go HARD on human-made video. OpenAI has in-house video crew + dedicated sets and put a lot of funding and effort behind the grandmas and kids campaigns. Google is pushing a very practical whack-a-mole campaign

your company should do this, too LinkedIn screenshot of Todd Morey's post, which begins, "Life comes at you fast. I've been so flooded by animated demo videos I can't scroll past them fast enough. That's mostly because they don't demo anything about the product; they only demo the motion design Al is now capable of. (Linkedin became a rave club over the last 10 days. My eyes...) Now that Al has built decent competence in motion design, a flashy promo video is just another Al tell. So... what's next? love the art and craft of motion..." Below, Jason has commented, "My hunch is that 'obviously made by human hands' is going to start carrying a 'premium quality' association even more than it used to. "At CodeTV we've been leaning into practical effects (physically creating visual assets, moving the camera to 'animate' them, interacting with 3D props vs. having animated illustrations flying around the screen) to give more personality and perceived weight to videos. "Al and other low-effort video gives the sense of, 'They didn't care at all about the quality of this. I wonder if they care about the quality of their product?' "Going the other way with content sends the right signals, I think: 'Wow, these folks care! They're willing to do a harder thing because it produced a better result.' "Feels like the best approach when everyone's smashing the Easy Button™ over and over again is to actually give a shit about quality."

the tech industry can be tough, but if you look for them, there are bright spots. making The Full Stack with @awsdevelopers was a great reminder of that for me

It’s Launch Week.

We’ve pitched. We’ve validated. We’ve built. We’ve worked through the user experience.

Now it’s time to launch.

Episode 5 of The Full Stack by @codetv.dev, presented by @awsdevelopers, is out now, and @iamjon77 and I are still in the competition as the 404 Arc-itects.

At this point, every decision matters, elimination is always looming, and just when you think you know where things are headed…

there’s a twist.

I’m not saying anything else about that. You’ll have to watch.

Tune in and let me know what you think after you’ve seen it.

I had the pleasure of dressing these two brilliant guys at the start of summer for a new show on @codetv.dev called The Full Stack presented by @awsdevelopers

It was a very fun 6 weeks, let’s do it again @jlengstorf!

As you can imagine, building a product in just a few hours is stressful.

Building one with elimination hanging over your head and cameras capturing every moment?

That’s a whole different experience.

The funny thing is, some of our best memories happened when the cameras weren’t rolling. We had an incredible time with this cast and crew.

Now it’s time for Episode 4: User Experience Week.

Host and judge Kelsey Hightower and judge @jlengstorf are joined by special guest judge @aarondfrancis to see if the 404 Arc-itects have the right fit and finish... or if we’re just finished. 👀

Tune in to The Full Stack this Thursday at 3:00 PM ET and find out.

The Full Stack is NOT a coding competition: it's about building a full product from idea to production to launch. all 8 ideas are really interesting — which one do you think has the best chance to win?

Watch episodes 1 and 2 now, with new episodes every Thursday. Link in bio.
