This year, we’re proud to spotlight the incredible talent of our local filmmakers! 🎬 🎞️✨

🎟️ Grab your General Admission tickets to the film screenings at the link in our bio — come celebrate Black storytelling and creativity with us!

This day will feature seven films exploring themes of community, liberation, and the preciousness of life:

The festival opens with “ASSATA,” a visual analogy of Assata Shakur’s journey—Black bodies moving beyond the surveillance of America, an exploration of freedom. - Directed by @codycooper__

“Ourika!” is a glamorous, surreal sci-fi tale of a Senegalese girl enslaved by a French aristocrat who ultimately finds her path to liberation.
- Directed by @glassdick

In “Good Old Days,” a preteen battles excitement and anxiety on the night before the first day of school. The film captures the universal anticipation of growing up and the innocence of nights we all wish we could relive. - Directed by @vsltruth.co

“The Village It Took” follows Ozanna as she strives to build community on a campus steeped in inequity—only to face the consequences of desperation.
- Directed by @victoria.wilcoxx

Next is “The Pits,” where a 77-year-old race car driver chases the thrill of speed while tethered to the slow passage of time—caring for his 102-year-old mother and holding on to the one thing that still makes him feel alive: the track. - Directed by @quranthesquire

“Restless Ground” examines the history of Mt. Olive Cemetery in Delaware and the lasting impact of institutional racism on the Black community, highlighting ongoing efforts to restore dignity and justice to those buried there.
- Directed by @kyraknox_

Finally, “Death & Taxes” turns its lens to Chester, PA—a small Black city caught in a state of violent emergency. Through a layered and haunting perspective, it explores the absurdity of numbness to death, embodied by a mortician’s assistant working overtime to afford his brother’s funeral.
