Yesterday, the City of Columbia broke ground on the Neighborhood Stormwater Greenspace Collaborative, a public-private partnership focused on creating neighborhood greenspaces while providing an innovative approach to stormwater absorption.

@colamayor, Councilmen @tylerdbailey and @samjohnsonforcolumbia, and City staff joined @columbia_green Executive Director Jennifer Young and @gillscreekwatershedassociation Executive Director Bailey Parker to mark the start of this collaborative effort.

Through partnerships with Columbia Green and the Gills Creek Watershed Association, the initiative brings together environmental stewardship and neighborhood greenspace to help address stormwater challenges in our community.

Yesterday afternoon, Columbia City Council recognized Domestic Violence Awareness Month with a proclamation presented by @colamayor, highlighting the importance of raising awareness, supporting survivors and working together to address domestic violence in our community. Representatives from @sistercaresc and @sccadvasa joined the presentation in recognition of their work providing lifesaving resources and support to survivors and their families.

Council also recognized the City’s Homeless Services Department for completing a yearlong trauma-informed leadership training in partnership with @columbiacollegesc. Dr. Elaine Chavez Swain, Program Chair of Social Work at Columbia College, presented the department with a professional certificate in Trauma-Informed Empowered Resilience Leadership. Through monthly sessions and collaborative discussions, the department’s team strengthened its skills to better understand and respond to the needs of vulnerable populations.

Council also celebrated three new homeowners, Latisha Miles-Hall, Deanna Mack and Tiffany Cherry, following the approval of property sales through the City’s homeownership efforts. All families received additional support through community partners, including $1,000 donations from Lowe’s and Cola Growth Collective to help support their transition into homeownership.

Together, these presentations reflect the City’s continued commitment to supporting residents, strengthening families and building a more resilient community.

Thank you, Columbia! 🇮🇹

What an incredible sight to see thousands of people come together at Finlay Park on Saturday to celebrate the return of the Italian Festival after 12 years!

The overwhelming support from our community made all the hard work worth it, and I couldn’t be more grateful to everyone who helped make this possible.

One thing is for sure: Columbia’s Italian Festival is back, and it’s here to stay!

We can’t wait to make it even bigger and better next year! 🇮🇹

When a community comes together, hope grows stronger.💜

On October 5th, @cityofcolumbiascgov gathered at Finlay Park to kick off Domestic Violence Awareness Month and recognize 45 years of Sistercare's service to the Midlands.

We are grateful to @colamayor, @columbiapdsc Chief Skip Holbrook, Shannon Nix of @sccadvasa, and our community partners for helping bring attention to domestic violence in the Midlands.

As we recognize the 20th Annual Mayor's Campaign Against Domestic Violence, we're reminded that creating safer communities takes all of us. Join us on October 24th for the 20th annual Mayor's Walk & Run Against Domestic Violence.

Thank you, Columbia, for continuing to stand with survivors. 💜#45YearsofSistercare #DVAM

Last week, the City of Columbia recognized October 9, 2026, as Latino-Hispanic Business Day through a proclamation read and presented by Councilman @samjohnsonforcolumbia alongside @colamayor.

The proclamation coincided with the 8th Annual SC Latino/Hispanic Business Day, led by the @motabusinessacademy and its Founder and President, Vanessa Mota. The statewide celebration honors the contributions, achievements and leadership of Latino and Hispanic business owners, entrepreneurs, professionals, educators and community leaders across South Carolina.

The City of Columbia recognizes the important role Latino and Hispanic leaders and business owners play in strengthening our local economy and community.

#TogetherWeAreColumbia #ColumbiaSC #LatinoHispanicBusinessDay A group of seven individuals stands together in a room with flags and a seal on the wall. One person is holding a framed document. The setting appears to be related to the South Carolina Latino Business Day Proclamation.

Two cities named Columbia. Two mayors with the same message.

“Listening before you decide someone’s wrong. Staying kind when that conversation gets hard.”

I am honored to be collaborating with the Columbia Museum of Art with this fabulous exhibit.

The human body is essential to craft. This genre of art is rooted in physical labor, tactile knowledge, and material intimacy, and the resulting pieces are often intended to protect our bodies or to assist in nourishing them.

Building on that foundation, this exhibition presents the works .

I’ll be instructing a mobility and flow class . It’s so important to keep our bodies moving and flexible as we move through life .

All information is available on website .
Hope to see you there
