POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

This week’s matchup against Kick ‘Em in Da Ballz ended in the most devastating way possible: they simply did not show up. Automatic win for us but unfortunately devastating news for Owen, Parker, and the two extremely talented men we recruited specifically because we thought we were finally about to have serious competition. They came locked in and ready for battle just for our opponents to disappear completely.

Thankfully some members of Kick ‘Em in Da Ballz eventually wandered onto the field so we threw together a scrimmage and made the best of it. Adam once again treated kickball like a family reunion and brought the entire Bernstein extended universe. Massive shoutout to Bonnie Bernstein for fearlessly holding down third base and leaving with an injury that truly embodies the spirit of the game. Captain Sydney Lewis also carried team morale on her back by bringing bagels because leadership is about sacrifice.

Special thank you to Sophie and Sabrina for coming to their first game — we loved having you both there and appreciate anyone willing to voluntarily join this chaos.

We missed Flip and Irom deeply. Their absence was felt in every inning and every unnecessary outfield debate.

Also we as an organization have officially given up on the men of 61 Grove Street. Horrific attendance. Horrific loyalty. Horrific friendship skills. The scouting department made mistakes.

See everyone may 31st when hopefully we face opponents who understand the basic concept of showing up to scheduled activities.

This @givingtuesday with Brooklyn Gives — powered by @bklynorg — help every baker rise. 🍞✨

At Kindred Bakery BK, inclusivity is the norm, not the exception.
Our baking and pastry arts programs are open to all, with space created intentionally for young people and adults with Autism, IDD, and diverse abilities to thrive alongside peers.

As Angela shared:
“Since joining Kindred, Shanell has been communicating more, smiling more, and feeling proud of her accomplishments.”

Made from scratch and with skill. 👩🏽‍🍳👨‍🍳
Yes — we take things to the next level. ✨

Our participants baked pumpkin-shaped bread AND made Whipped Pumpkin Honey Butter, led by @chelseaaburgess in this week’s Halloween-inspired class. Using @kingarthurbaking ’s Golden Wheat Flour, they transformed simple ingredients into edible art — a true celebration of creativity and inclusion. 🎃🍞🍯

Join us — we can make you into a baking artist too. 💛

📣 KINDRED VOICES

“She’s more confident, more independent, and more able to speak up for herself.” — Charlotte’s mom

This month, we’re celebrating stories from our community. Today, meet Charlotte. 💛

👩‍🍳 Age: 31
⏳ Time with Kindred: 2 years
🏛️ This summer: Worked the cash register at the Children’s Museum pop-up
💭 Future dream: Own her own bakery + create her own recipes
🍋 Faves: Cinnamon buns + mini lemon loaves
🍽️ Trying new foods? YES 🙌

“She’s always needed someone to tell her the next step—but now she’s stepping up. She brushes her thick curly hair and puts it in a ponytail because she *knows* it looks good. And she *knows* it has to be back for work at the bakery.”

“I’m 62, and I had started to doubt I’d ever see her be independent. But watching her grow with Kindred has changed my vision for both of our futures. It’s pretty huge.”

✨ Thank you to Emma and Adam for helping us tell these beautiful stories.

🥖✨ Busy day at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, but so worth it to connect with our grantors and share the grassroots work we’re doing every day.

Big thanks to @NYCommTrust and Rachel Pardoe for stopping by to see the growth of our still parent-led mission in action. 💛

Our pop-up ends August 30th — still time to come visit, taste, and see what we’re all about!

🥖💛 Huge thanks to @SabrinaHargrove and @MylaSeabrook from @bklynorg for visiting our pop-up at the @bcmkids ! Your smiles, support, and positive vibes made our day.

We loved brainstorming together about ways to grow our skill-building programs and bring more opportunities to our community. As one of our incredible grantors, Brooklyn Org is helping us make inclusivity the norm, not the exception — creating spaces where people of all abilities can learn, grow, and shine. 💫

📍 Brooklyn Children’s Museum | Kindred Crew in Action

This week, something beautiful happened in our kitchen.

As ovens warmed and bread rose, so did our participants—growing in communication, connection, and confidence. Side by side, Kindred crew members supported one another, shared laughs, and showed what it means to work as a team.

The addition of volunteers from @theservicecollective brought a fresh wave of encouragement. Their thoughtful presence helped create space for our young people to take initiative, engage with others, and build bonds—not just over recipes, but over real-life moments.

This is more than baking. This is community in motion.
And we’re just getting started.

Transformation in Action: at Kindred x P94M/188 x P721M

Through creativity, collaboration, and community spirit, the team turned Ms. Jamie’s classroom into a functioning baking production space for students from P94M/188 and PS721M. In just two sessions, these incredible students have already produced inspiring results!

This is experiential learning in action—where mixing, measuring, and baking go beyond the recipe to teach life and workplace skills in real-time.

They’ve shown up, stayed focused, and proven what we already knew—they are eager, capable, and ready to thrive when given the chance.

At Kindred, we believe that everyone deserves access to meaningful, skills-based learning. Let’s continue to invest in opportunities for all students to rise, learn, and lead.#kindredbakerybk #p94mbulldogs #721mcityhawks #bakingwithpurpose #idowedoyoudo #d75citywideprograms #bakingwithpurpose #kingarthurbakingcompany #nycommunitytrust #inclusivebaking #autismawarenessmonth

Fresh from the oven! This weekend, our Saturday Baking Program participants took on the art of cinnamon rolls, and the results were nothing short of spectacular! ✨🍞🌀 With expert instruction from Chefs Cole and Iliana, our students mastered the delicate balance of soft, pillowy dough, rich cinnamon filling, and perfectly golden swirls.

Beyond baking, this session was a hands-on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) experience:

🔬 Science – Understanding yeast fermentation, gluten formation, and the Maillard reaction for that golden-brown crust.

💻 Technology – Using precise temperature control and timers to ensure ideal proofing and baking conditions.

🛠 Engineering – Rolling and shaping the dough with structural integrity to create uniform cinnamon spirals.

🎨 Art – Expressing creativity through shaping, filling distribution, and final presentation of the rolls.

➗ Math – Measuring ingredients, adjusting ratios, and calculating proofing times for perfect consistency.

From kneading to proofing, rolling to glazing, every step was a testament to their skill, patience, and creative expression. 🙌🏾💡 The aroma alone was pure magic, but the taste? Next-level perfection!

Swipe to see their beautifully crafted work and the dedication that went into every roll. Stay tuned for more from our talented bakers!
