This is a post I am incredibly saddened to write. Gary was a kind, gentle, creative, loving soul. We met initially through The Box Gallery, he came to all our PV’s and was a great supporter. He became a friend. Many other events and exhibitions, many times bumping into him wandering with a camera around his neck taking his wonderful images of Portsmouth. He was a talented musician, photographer and creator of art… and loved it all with a passion. He was also a night owl like me. We would message at 2am when we were both up listening to music and painting … we would share WIP pieces and tunes… I am gutted.. we have lost a beautiful man, a huge fan of the arts and supporter of all that is creative in Portsmouth. My thoughts are with his family, friends and all the people’s lives I know he touched. There are not enough Gary’s in the world - and he was a good one. We have lost a dear soul and an artist @lostsoulartist (thank you to @black_squirrel_photos for the portrait included in this reel - perfect)

Our first year students had the incredible opportunity to meet Colin Merrin and visit his studio in Portsmouth. Colin emphasised the importance of keeping a sketch book in informing thinking and creative development. His experience working for Halas & Batchelor is a great inspiration!

“15 - A Group Show”

Huge thanks to all of you that came along on Friday evening for the opening of the latest show here at the gallery.

It was great to see so many faces old and new as well as all the artists.

If you didn’t swing by for the opening or at the weekend to check it out, the gallery will be open the following hours this week with various artists from the show in each day.

In the meantime here’s some sneak peeks of some of the work on display.

Paint,Paint,Paint…

It’s time for another show and it opens this coming Friday!

So it was time for a quick repaint of the gallery today so it’s ready for all the new works that are being delivered over the next few days.

A complete megamix of artists are taking over the gallery for the next two weekends.

The residents will be joined by a group of local artists and guest artists all of which will be showcasing a variety of new works and some extra special pieces.

Everything from ceramics to sculpture to photography to lino print to collage to pastel to cyanotype and of course spraypaint will be on the walls and on display…and the studios will also be open.

Keep an eye out on here for some sneak peeks and more details over the coming days.

See you all on Friday 6pm onwards.

April brings so many things to enjoy on our doorstep. As it is the Portsmouth 100 celebrations, many individuals and businesses are celebrating this in lots of ways. Look out for all the activities across the city.

I love the local bakeries we have here, which give opportunities for picnics with friends. And there are new workshops, supper clubs, and new places to go and visit.
